because the fish art trying to kill the fisherman you ass whole. the fish dosnt calculate and plan new and more inventive ways to kill the fisherman every day the fish will fall for the same tatic every day millions of times. if the army could catch all the bad guys in a net every day and walk away they would but that wont work. they face people every day who are actively trying to kill them and who are not going to do it the same way every time. a fisherman can plan for 99% of the challenges they face and as long as they follow protocol they will be fine. if an army man covers his front the enemy learns to shoot them in the back. these men risk there lives for you show some fucking respect

All I am saying is I do not see it the same way others do. It is just sensationalism to glorify soldiers in the hopes more people will sign up in the hopes of themselves becoming heroes. The statistics for fisherman die would look to be a higher percentage (if they are at all i dont know) because the population is alot lower than armed services personnel.
if there are 10 fisher and 1 dies, thats 10% mortality.
If there are 1000 soldiers and 50 die, thats only 5%

Right, that is how statistics work. You are proving my point. If 1,000 people go overseas, and 50 die, that is a 5% chance of death. If 100 fisherman go out, and 10 come back, that is a 10% chance of death. proving that being a Fisherman is more dangerous. Again, I am not belittling our soldiers, I am merely asking WHY THE MILITARY IS GLORIFIED TO THIS EXTENT when there are other dangerous occupations as well.

If there are less fisherman and one dies, it makes more of an impact to the percentages %, not the danger. Its bumps up the % because there are less people, not more danger.
The military have every right to be glorified, they pay the ultimate sacrifice so we can have freedom and protection. Not a meal on the table.

You are attempting to insult me for not agreeing with you on a matter. Just because there are less people(a paltry 20 million professional fisherman in the US alone) does not make the risk less. They have more risk, regardless of how many there are. Why is that an insult to other veterans and people currently serving? Where did I say they did not deserve something? All I am saying is, why is it glorified so much? Maybe if you actually did a tour yourself, you would know what I mean. I have never, NEVER, met another soldier(Army for me) who fought "for freedom." We signed up for a salary, food, and living space. Very few of us even wanted to go to Iraq. Because, and this is besides the point, there is no threat to America IN IRAQ. We were/are there as a police force, telling other people from another country how to live their lives. Would you like it if the British came here in force and told you what to do? But again, that is besides the point. We are doing some good over there though. Small steps. But again, why is such a big deal made out of it?

Fisherman have a dangerous job no doubt, but saying its more dangerous than the military services is just naive.
A fisherman has to battle the elements and the possibility off accident. A soldier has to not only battle those, but also an enemy with home advantage, who is active thinking of ways to kill the soldier 24hrs a day. In all manners of scenarios.
Experience and practice help the fisherman. Experience and practice can only hope to help the soldier when hes facing an ambush, outnumbered and outgunned, angst real guns, real bullets.
Try telling a WW2 veteran that being a fisherman is more dangerous.

Compare the RISK of a fisherman boat to the RISK of an enemy with real guns and bullets and bombs.

Obviously the Fisherman has more risk. Hence why the death rate is higher then the military. That is all I am saying. I do not believe I am insensitive. I did my time overseas. I am just saying in the bigger scheme of things there are many occupations that are way more dangerous then serving in the military. So why is the military glorified? I could see if we were in the middle of a war against a threat on par with Nazi Germany. But we are not. We are fighting in a country that doesn't even have the ghost of it's own military presence to give them "democracy" and "human rights." And make sure if they find any oil we get first dibs. Of course that is not the fault of the soldiers themselves, and there are of course other things going on as well. But at the end of the day, Being in the military is not the most dangerous occupation, its not even in the top ten. So why is it such a big deal?

We glorify them because they have fought and defended us over HISTORY so that we may have the Democracy and Human Rights that we have today.
The middl eastern conflicts may not be the most popular wars. But the military has earn their respect over the course of history.

See, that I disagree with. I believe everyone should EARN their own respect, not be given it for free by signing a piece of paper. I do agree, the military's men and woman of the past have done well. But that means every soldier who signs up automatically deserves it? And what does that have to do with my question?

They dont automatically deserve it but as an organisation they do.
They train and teach their people to behave to ideals of honor and repsect.

Actually I am Army Reserve, and have done one tour in Iraq(allot of sand, bugs, staring at the wall, walking from point A to point B, and allot of cleaning my units weapons). My full time job is as the Systems pinkie pie for a major companies branch office in my state. I am just using fisherman as an example because they have THE MOST dangerous job. Period.

Your in the army as a desk jockey. Therefore have no risk. Bullets are more of a risk than fish.

Uh..You did read what I said right? Walk from point A to point B. I did normal patrols, hummer runs, transport. In addition to fixing weapons, managing confiscated weapons, and other duties as assigned. I am a Small Arms tech. Again, why not just answer my question rather then try to insult me?
