That's how I act, giving a smile to everyone. Telling them they are a good person and they should never doubt themselves. Always wearing a smile or having a joke to tell. I tell everyone who befriends me that they can talk to me, and they won't be judged or criticized. I will listen as long as someone needs me to, and even offer advice. When people tell me that because I was there to make them feel better, it lifts my spirits so much.
You may not believe me, but it's actually a way I help fight my own depression. In the years that I've been alive, so much of my family has passed away that all I have left is my mom, uncle, and little brother. Instead of inflicting that depression on others, I work to help lift their spirits despite my own sadness. Seeing them happy makes me feel so much better because they are feeling better.
You know what they say. A smile is contagious.
