I think the Wii U actually won the counsel wars already. Why? Because it's the only one of the three that actually focuses on games. And support is become larger, Nintendo just has weird release dates. They either join the party a few years late (SNES vs Genesis) or a few years early (Wii, Wii U). The others are focusing on Multi-media, and smart TV's are actually on the rise in a big way in the commercial market, the can browse the Internet and access netflix etc. That makes the Xbox One and PS4 already outdated. And, all counsels need a TV, why get all that extra stuff on counsels when your TV has it? With the screen on the controller, you don't even need a TV to play the Wii U. It dabbles in netflix and Internet just to be a bit more competitive with the others in that field, but it's not needed. And the Wii U isn't underpowered by any means. Are the other more powerful? Yes. Does it make a big difference other than visuals? No, and if you think visuals are amazingly important for a good game, allow me to direct you to the NES, with a massive library of amazing games.

TL;DR: Wii U won because it knows what it is; A video game counsel.

No console pokemon? Ever? Hmm...

I'm going to say this as a Nintendo fanboy, I am disappointed with Nintendo.
Before you guys get all pissy, let me explain myself. Nintendo has forever, stuck with their older franchises, which is fine in it's own merit, but doesn't really improve those franchises with each new release. Satoshi Taijiri killed the Smash Bros franchise for me because he said he would be removing anything to do with a story in the next installment, all because Brawl was leaked. Which to me is a really "baby" thing to do. It makes me question where the series and possibly Nintendo is heading.
Nintendo also hasn't impressed me with their game lineup. I think they did well to secure a relationship with Capcom and Sega for Monster Hunter and Bayonetta 2. That impressed me, and gives me hope for the console. But, those games aside, apart from first-party titles and a limited eShop library, they don't have much going for them. What Nintendo really needs is new IP's, something to say "Hey, the Wii U is for everybody." Which is why the other consoles rely on third-party titles in addition to their own games. It increases their library and the likelihood someone will buy their console. They will always have something to play. So far Wii U doesn't have many " ******** " titles to entice the hungry gamer. They don't branch out and consistently stick to their stubborn way of doing things. Everything they do recently is to entice children, not everyone. I enjoy some of the games they put out, but it feels stale and unwanted. I'd gladly buy a Wii U if they decide to impress me with more games or a must-have Zelda title, but until then, I don't respect them as much as I did with the Wii.
TL;DR Stop ****** your money and put out more games

It's amazing how much bs they managed to cram into this reposted **** . Wii U sales have been a bit slow but they increased in a 340% recently during the holiday season and will probably continue to do so. 3rd party support isn't non-existent in the console; we have Platinum Games, Ubisoft, Activision, Sega, Capcom, and the list goes on and on. Also, there was already a new Mario game, Pikmin, Nintendo Land, Rayman, The Wonderful 101, Batman, Scribblenauts, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Wii Fit U, Wind Waker HD, and also Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Zelda and the Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem crossover are on the way. And something very important is that when Sega went third party they didn't have more than dust in the bank and had had like three failed consoles in a row. Nintendo, on the other hand, has a pornographic amount of money, just came out from a very succesful generation with the Wii, and the 3ds practically prints money. Yeah, Nintendo will definitely fail and sink.

I mean, each SSB game added so much to the series, from what i've seen this new game doesn't seem to present much besides a few new characters at the moment
User avatar #221 to #218 - nidhugg (01/09/2014) [-]
Like what?
The only difference between Melee and Brawl was the smash ball and slightly slower speed.
And there was hardly any difference between SSB and SSBM

I don't give a **** what anyone says

the Wii U is getting a new Super Smash Bros. this year - So I am getting a Wii U.

that's not even mentioning the next fire emblem, Monster Hunter 3, Monster Hunter 4 (to be released), the next Zelda, Wind Waker remake (yeah **** the haters I never finished the original), and a controller structure that allows it to make proper versions of cross-platform games and any number of ports.

Honestly, I don't care much for the PS4 and XBox One. I only want a PS4 because of Infamous: Second Son, and Killzone: Shadow Fall.

Wii U for Smash bros, and it's better game library overall
User avatar #176 to #174 - guymandude (01/09/2014) [-]
yeah, my plan is to get a PS4 first, then a Wii U, and then, years from now, if something happens that makes me feel its worth it, I'll get the XBox One.

I actually really like the Wii U, the name aside it's a pretty neat console.
Super Mario 3D World is amazing, Nintendo Land is surprisingly good for being Wii Sports 2.0, Rayman Legends is the bees ************* knees and I can barely contain my nutsack in my pants while I wait for Smash Bros and Mario Kart.
And sweet Moses ******* if that screen-remote controller thingy isn't the most comfortable controller I've held in a long time.

Sonic Lost World was OK. SEGA managed to get Sonic almost back on track with their latest releases, but Lost World was just mediocre.

The Wii U is just a bad idea in general and any game, regardless of developer, is going to have serious issue.

Nintendo were innovative with the Wii and implemented the motion controls well, but the Wii U is just annoying. Having to look down at your controller (even when it doesn't happen that often) completely ruins the flow of the gameplay.
User avatar #160 - hahahaheidi (01/09/2014) [-]
Anyone else think of Kung Pow whenever you hear "Wii U?"

The gaming marked is turning slowly into what the music marked has become, music has become more about dancing and having the looks that can make a teenage girls panties make the Niagara falls looks like a tiny sprinkler in comparison, and those who purely focuses on the music them self rare get any recognition.

And then we have the gaming marked, Sony focuses on sharing gameplay videos and **** , because " **** YOU! wanna play a game in peace? hah, no. here, watch this dude, or call someone to finish this level for you!"
Microsoft "hey guys, check out our new system, you can watch netflix and other tv series on it, and you remember kinect? yeah, we know you didn't like it, so we're gonna just force feed that to you"

And then we have Nintendo, who game us Wii U, it doesn't have the insane process power as the new systems have, it doesn't game that many games with blood in it, like the others have, but it has this one thing that the others don't have... full focus on games, and games only
User avatar #165 to #151 - sanguinesolitude (01/09/2014) [-]
i think you meant market not marked. Which made it hard to take anything you said seriously. Also Wii U focuses on games? Really? Nearly none of the top titles for serious gamers come out on it, and you can still do your netflix and hulu on it. It is the kids and grandparents console, except where the grandparents bought a wii, they havent been buying a wii u.
User avatar #172 to #165 - froggets (01/09/2014) [-]
What is a serious gamer?
Like honestly, what is that? and is that something you would brag about?
Nintendo released released some major titles on Wii U last year that were all highly praised, I honestly don't know what you're talking about
User avatar #205 to #172 - sanguinesolitude (01/09/2014) [-]
not saying that to be proud or brag or anything like that. i consider myself somewhat of a gamer, but it isnt something i identify with and certainly dont go around calling myself one. I was more referring to market divisions. like kids, mobile gamers, light gamers, female gamers, and serious gamers. There are of course many other divisions possible, but just to differentiate who is buying what. A serious gamer would be one who spends more than a couple hours a day, and i would say who plays more ****** games as a primary means of recreation. Generally "gamers" tend to be later teens to adults, not younger children. Usually cares about graphics, story, production value, etc. Generally not someone who plays things like just dance or a little farmville as their main source. Also I consider kids who get games bought for them, rather than buying them on their own, to be a completely different category from serious gamers.

Face it, people who identify as gamers rarely buy wiis and play them. You say there were some highly rated games, name them please. And then look at how many copies they sold. the ps4 sold in it's first month has sold nearly as many units as wii has in the past year. The wii u is a failure, and has never been the choice for people who identify as gamers. The vast VAST majority of it's titles are **** , and the top tier games tend to just be kinda ****** ports of the ps3/xbox versions.

I am not insulting the wii or nintendo, I fondly look back on having a N64 and I have occasionally played mario cart on a friend's wii. It is a fun casual console. But the only reasons to get a wii instead of one of the others, at least in my opinion, is for mario or zelda. And btw ****** ports of games that work better on the other consoles do not count. Wii U has some great family friendly games and is perfect for kids, but not really something most adults want to buy or play.

Not sure if that rumored Pokemon game is that tidbit of video at the end of one of their trailers that had a Blaziken and a Lucario in a city 3D environment. If so, Nintendo said themselves that was a small tech demo to show what Pokemon could look like on Wii U. Similar to the Zelda tech demo that was shown on Wii U's release. Although, it could be hinting at a Pokemon for Wii U, but nothing's official. Keep hoping, cause I want it too.

>No, Super mario 3D land does not count as a new "Mario" game. A new Mario game like Super Mario 64/Sunshine/Galaxy is expected with the release of every console, just like with the Gamecube and Wii.
