All I know of this game is that it's Disney characters mixed with random anime-looking characters. I look at what I believe to be an unholy union and decide it's ****. Can someone please tell what's so good about this game? No hate, I want to know

As a guy with no life, I will be glad to explain what's good about Kingdom Hearts is good.

1. The right Mixture of Nostalgia - Kingdom Hearts is one of the most nostalgic series I've played reasons for two very obvious reasons: Final Fantasy and Disney. Two very popular brands with huge followings. Why is that? They put out great products and we grew up with them. I definitely remember watching disney films as a kid and playing final fantasy when I was a teen(Granted, I still watched disney movies...still do) I was one of the many that knew about these brands and loved them for the memories they gave me and how present they were in my life. So mashing these two completely different brands or two different mediums seemed like it was going to put a bad taste in our mouths. At first glance, you're right. This does look like an odd combination of franchises that just wouldn't work on paper. I mean, Disney and Final Fantasy? together? That'll never work And... it did. In fact, the first best thing about this series is how well this mix both different worlds and make them work for almost everyone. Some didn't but it but most of us did. And they did in such a artistically creative way with the character placement, side missions, and etc and it never toke us out the experience because... that was the experience. Disney and Final Fantasy. Together. That's what we got and what we got was pretty damn good.

2. Gameplay - The game played well. Very well. Addictive, in fact. I remember playing this game for ******* hours when I was 14. Getting every single thing, killing heartless like a badass, and leveling up as much as I could(I wasn't as good at the game back then so I only got level 20 or 30). This was one of the games to play on a Playstation 2 because it was just fun. They just released an HD version and it still holds up. And they still use it to this day with many sequels(which is why not everyone is all that crazy for chain of memories.)

3. Characters/Story - The story... gets ridiculous. I mean, re-god damn-diculous. Every new game there's new characters and whole new plot that gets thrown in the main plot of the series. The story isn't bad at all, I don't think, and in some cases its really good and you really get into the universe and mythology they create with the characters and what's bigger plot going on. But then just little **** gets in the way and characters being in random places and confusing opening intros that don't make sense if you didn't play the handhelds, or even knew that the story continues in non-number sequel title on a $100 plus handheld system you probably don't have. But why do we put up with it? Because, at times, the story gets really interesting and sometimes good and its mainly because of the characters. The characters are the best thing about the story and some have a surprisingly amount of depth them. Riku and Roxas are one of the best written characters because if you think about, there stories are kind of tragic. The one of the main characters that not is all that well written in terms of personality and story is Sora but the funny thing about it is that we still love him. Its not like the Ash from pokemon thing were he's so generic that if he left the series as the main character we would all be cheering because he's the pure definition of a blandless hero. Sora's personality is of a carefree, gullible guy who has unexpected great power, unbroken spirit, cares for his friends no matter what, and is destined (well, kinda, sort of) to save us. Very typical. I blame Dragonball for that. But we've been through a lot with that character and he still makes the best of his generic personality by being so likable of a protagonist. It's never annoying. If he left, most fans would ask "Why? he's the main character?"

So you see, the series is good because of its gameplay and its charm. Despite its faults, I love it and I'll always come back to this series. have a nice day.

It has an objectively interesting and deep story, mixed with the worlds many people consider warm childhood memories. The gameplay is fun and the music is nice. The Disney characters merge surprisingly well with the Final Fantasy/Anime-esque characters.

While the story is alright, it's a bit generic. World being slowly devoured / corrupted, evil beings trying to wreck ****, minions out the wazoo. Par for the course since the SNES. This is still adequately mixed up by throwing in the storylines and characters from both the Final Fantasy storyline and multiple Disney franchises. You heard that right, not just the old cartoons like Beauty and the Beats or Peter Pan, but every IP owned by Disney is up for grabs in current and future KH games. TRON is a level in the second game, along with Pirates of the Caribbean.

The gameplay is pretty damn good, but the spectacle of the combat is ******* fantastic. This aspect shows in the second game, Kingdom Hearts II (2). Most consider it much easier than other entries in the series (and the three hour tutorial is annoying as hell, not to mention the Atlantica level which is just a freaking musical QTE) but the combat is amazing and the variety of moves is satisfying to types of play style.

But **** Birth By Sleep. That game is like trying to break down a brick wall by bashing it with your own skull. This is coming from a guy who plays Dark Souls to chill out.

I didn't think Birth by Sleep was that bad, except the final boss took forever for me to beat. I only played as Ventus and a little of Aqua before my PSP broke, maybe it's harder on other characters?

You didn't happen to play that strange board game thing to power up your attacks, did you? Every time I die I joke that they must really want the players to use it in since there was no good reason to play it other than making moves stronger.

I've made that joke so many times, I'm starting to believe it.

I actually don't remember a board game part. It's been a good while since I played it though.

I just Googled it. Sounds like Monopoly with Nintendo characters.

I hate Monopoly.

I like Monopoly and I like Mario, but Fortune Street is the laziest Mario cash grab ever in existence.

The game looks like it's literally about lazy cash grabbing.

This is either the most meta thing in existence, or somebody just did not give a ****.

Mario Party 1 seriously had better quality/graphics. At least the characters had voice actors in it.
