Ok, so i've been looking into getting a decent gaming PC and i know what kind of specs i'm looking for. I was looking at an I5 with an Nvidia GTX570 and was fairly set those were the parts i should get, but for fun i thought i'd check out what AMD and ATI had in comparison. For roughly equal specs i'd be saving over a hundred pounds, the AMD processor actually looked better on the face of it. So my question is, why on earth does anyone buy Intel and Nvidia parts when the competitors make just as good stuff (so far as I can tell) but for less?

Because for Intel the extra money goes towards less heat and energy consumption, but if you're a gamer, the extra money you save on AMD cpu can go towards a better cooler or psu. Also, Intel has the most unethical and immoral business choices. Look up their history with AMD (just wikipedia it). Nvidia, I have no idea what's up with their over-priced, under-performing stuff.
Yeh I looked up the whole AMD vs Intel thing and I see the benefits of both sides. Nvidia on the other hand do produce better cards than ATI from what i can tell. The actual GPU's on Nvidia cards are better than that of ATI's but ATI's have more dedicated video memory for the prices. NVidia's approach to that makes much more sense though as there cards can deal with instructions faster and therefore render faster than ATI, plus they tend to be better ventilated, as well as being pretty adaptable.
