Alright guys, should I play Fallout 3 or New Vegas? I've never played either, but I feel like starting.
I've completed FNV about 8 times normal, 3 times hardcore, and 1/4 of the way through on very hard mode.
I've played FO3 for about half an hour - one hour.
FO3 was definitely scarier in dark areas, and it felt more like a wasteland. In FNV when you came across a person you just ignored them because of how common they were. In FO3 I ran to the source of any human voices because they were a pretty rare sound.

Because. at its core,FNV is all of Fallout 3+ some of its best mods in the desert.
The weapon mods? Takin from Alistars Weapon Mod Project
Hardcore Mode? Take from Fallout Wanders Edition/FOOK.
The devs themselves even admitted to using them as "inspiration".
The game itself is extremly sloppy in its execution and not well thought out. While I love it to death, the constant bugs, script errors and often catastrophic errors in coding make me not want to play this as much as I do Fallout 1,2 and 3. Its sad when you have the same errors from all the games that used the same Gamebryo engine for the past 5 years+ and you still cant fix the bugs. Its sad really.
Obsidian makes amazing stories. Cant do shit for coding. Basically,FNV is Fallout 3s mega expansion while I agree the DLCs have improved,it still felt like it was not done all the way and should have not been released so soon. It felt sort of Half baked to me.

I liked New Vegas more because you have more influence on the ending of the game. New Vegas's story is more about tracking a man through the wastes of the Mojave desert to get your revenge after he tried to kill you. While doing so getting caught up in a war and choosing who you want to side with. Fallout 3's story is more about finding your dad and carrying on his legacy while choosing between good and evil.
If you're looking to get it on PC, there's this nice torrent I used to obtain it for free.

It doesn't come with DLC though.
