Anyone else on the board love Dragon Age Origins?

I just reinstalled it and played for a little while on a new character. A Human warrior who specializes in two handed weapons named "Anubis". I've played through the game six or seven times now and it's still fun to me. Although there are some parts that I do find pretty boring, like grinding your way through the Deep Roads, but other than that and a couple small glitches in the game it's definitely one of my favorite RPGs that I own.

What kind of characters did you guys play this game as or what ending do you go for?

my most favorite game ever, but dragon age 2 is to fucking puke on, i hate it.
Hope DA3 becomes better tho.

I don't like Dragon Age 2 either, it wasn't a terrible game but it definitely wasn't the sequel that Dragon Age Origins deserved. I didn't like any of the followers they gave you, the repeating levels and being stuck in one city instead of being able to explore an entire country like the first game. Also that terrible ending that left you with NO way out or extra options like Dragon Age Origins pissed me off. It's like "Well shit's gone down so you're either with them or you're with us." I wanted to go with a "Fuck both of you, I'm leaving." ending but as far as I'm aware from my playthroughs that was never an option.

All in all Dragon Age Origins was a great game and Dragon Age 2 was just a massive letdown to everyone who loved the first game.

I've only played the main story right through once and got half way with like 3 other characters. I got the Ultimate Edition for my 360 last year or the year before so I've played all the DLC through though. Overall a fantastic game.

My first character was a simple warrior, can't remember the specific equipment but I always wore Blood Dragon armour once I got it and stuck with either a 1 handed sword and shield or two handed sword which I'd alternate between. Ending wise I porked Morrigan so that she'd have the kid absorb the soul instead of me dying. Made Witch Hunt better then as well.

I haven't bought any DLC for the game since I haven't had it installed on my PS3 in a long time and I can't afford to buy much extra content. I might buy Awakening and Witch Hunt though since they look like they're pretty good. Which DLC for Origins would you recommend?

For my ending I usually go with my character either gets Morrigan pregnant or sacrifices himself by killing the Archdemon.

If you have none of the DLC what I would suggest doing is selling your original copy of Origins and buying the Ultimate Edition because you get every DLC on another disc with the game, works out cheaper than buying all the DLCS seperate because Awakening is a full on expansion which costs like £20.

If you'd rather just buy one or two DLCs though, I'd say Awakening and Golems of Amgerrak(sp?) are probably the best in terms of quality and length. Witch Hunts good but I finished it in an hour or so.
Lelianna's Betrayal or whatever that DLC is called is good as well, that lasted about an hour or 2, good stuff in it but I'm not to interested in Lelianna.
The Stone Prisoner is good, extra party member for the entire game and their actually fairly useful.
Return to Ostager is good as well, if only for new equipment and the extra story.

Out of them I'd personally go with Golems of Amgerrak and Awakening, although if possible buy the Ultimate Edition, you won't regret it. Even comes with items to boost party members feelings towards you and the Blood Dragon armour.

I went on Amazon and found DA:O Ultimate Edition for only 20$ so I'll be trying to get that sometime this summer. I'm just going to give my original copy of DA:O away to a friend.

Just one question, will my save file for DA:O carry over to the ultimate edition? Like, I can load up my old save files and continue my character? I know this is probably a stupid question but I just want to make sure.
User avatar #55459 to #55218 - ilieksheep (06/23/2012) [-]
Nah its not a stupid question, L.A. Noire and other games with complete editions tend to use different saves.

But yeah, if you get Ultimate edition your saves will carry over, all it is is Origins on one disc, and then another disc with all the DLC on it, you just pick which ones you want at that moment in time and install them.

Thanks! I'm 12-13 hours into this character so I didn't want to buy the Ultimate Edition and end up starting all over.
User avatar #55821 to #55815 - ilieksheep (06/23/2012) [-]
No problem :P I wouldn't want to have to start again either, although I got lucky and just bought the Ultimate Edition straight away, baha.
User avatar #55826 to #55821 - basementgoblin (06/23/2012) [-]
Haha. When the Ultimate edition came out I was off playing other games so I didn't really think about it. I found a bunch of other cheap Ultimate and GOTY editions of games, so I might be getting those too.
User avatar #55827 to #55826 - ilieksheep (06/23/2012) [-]
Fair enough :P When DA:O Ultimate Edition came out I'd wanted it for ages and it was dropped from £30 to £17 so I thought fuck it why not?
As for anything else GOTY/Ultimate Edition related I've ended up buying the DLC before the complete version, I can never help myself D:
User avatar #55830 to #55827 - basementgoblin (06/23/2012) [-]
I hardly ever buy DLC since I'm a cheapskate so I try to wait for the price to go down or I wait for a friend to gameshare them with me.

But if I had the money I wouldn't be able to help myself from buying DLCs either lol.
User avatar #55832 to #55830 - ilieksheep (06/23/2012) [-]
I overdo it DLC wise, I spend a bit to much money I shouldn't, but the real problem is I wait till games and DLC get dropped on Xbox Live Deal of the Week, and if theres stuff I want I go nuts.
User avatar #55835 to #55832 - basementgoblin (06/23/2012) [-]
PSN doesn't often have sales, which is why I resort to gamesharing for the DLCs I want but don't have the money for at the moment.
User avatar #55838 to #55835 - ilieksheep (06/23/2012) [-]
See now I've no idea what gamesharing is but I'm assuming its just allowing other people access to your account to download stuff?
User avatar #55842 to #55838 - basementgoblin (06/23/2012) [-]
Yep, that's it exactly. On PSN 5 other PS3s are allowed to have your account on them as users, so those 5 PS3s are allowed to access your account.

I have a friend in New York City who gave me all the DLC for Red Dead Redemption and my friend from Florida gave me a bunch of DLC for MW2 and C.o.D. W@W.
User avatar #55845 to #55842 - ilieksheep (06/23/2012) [-]
That actually sounds pretty cool. My only problem is I have no friends with a PS3, although I don't use the one in my house atm because its my dad's and I can't be bothered to play it on his crappy tv, baha.
User avatar #55849 to #55845 - basementgoblin (06/23/2012) [-]
Lol. I have a very crappy TV as well and I'm waiting to replace it. This things best quality is 360p and the only reason I still have it is because it's a big screen TV.
User avatar #55854 to #55849 - ilieksheep (06/23/2012) [-]
Unlucky, I had a 32 inch screen tv until about 2/3 years ago that was good but it was only standard definition, it was quite old so picture quality was shit. Bought a 42 inch 1080p tv 2/3 years ago and I can't look at SD quality screens now, just makes me feel ill, baha.
User avatar #55861 to #55854 - basementgoblin (06/24/2012) [-]
I have a 1080p flatscreen TV at my dads house and it's weird after spending a weekend there playing all my games in HD, and then coming home to this old TV. All the games just look a bit, off.

This TV of mine also has a problem with some video chip on the inside of it. A year ago it broke and everything on screen was just a bunch of strips of yellow and blue and now all the text on screen seems to have a second set of text overlapping it. This TV should have been retired a long time ago but better late than never I guess lol.
User avatar #55890 to #55861 - ilieksheep (06/24/2012) [-]
Fair enough, bout time ya get a new one then :P
Anyway this conversations has gotten rather big, so I shall leave it for now, and possibly add you as a friend because you seem cool.
Good day to you :P
User avatar #55893 to #55890 - basementgoblin (06/24/2012) [-]
You have a good day as well. Talk to you later.
User avatar #55881 to #55861 - ilieksheep (06/24/2012) [-]
Christ, can tell its just a bit old then, baha.
User avatar #55887 to #55881 - basementgoblin (06/24/2012) [-]
It's a very old TV, almost 7 or 8 years old I think.
User avatar #55871 to #55861 - ilieksheep (06/24/2012) [-]
It would appear we've broken the lines. Feck.
Christ, must have been fun when that happened :L
User avatar #55879 to #55871 - basementgoblin (06/24/2012) [-]
Yeah, I was unplugging my PS3 from the wall outlet behind the TV and my foot brushed up against the side of the TV. The entire front of the speakers just fell right off.
User avatar #55862 to #55861 - ilieksheep (06/24/2012) [-]
I hate playing things without it being HD now, just so fuzzy and ugly :L
You gonna replace the tv soon then I'm assuming? If mine did that I wouldn't be able to cope with it, I'm so fussy with shit :L
User avatar #55870 to #55862 - basementgoblin (06/24/2012) [-]
Yeah, this August is when this TV is getting thrown out and I get a high definition flatscreen like I do at my dads. I was going to keep this TV for a little longer instead of spending money on a new one....then the front of the speakers fell off.
