Ok guise, I have a problem.

I have never played any of the Assassin's Creed games (gasp), but I've been dying to get the game since the first one came out. I've always been the stealthy ninja type of player in just about every game I have ever played.

Anyways, I now see that the third one is coming out, and I'm not gonna let this shit fly anymore. I, without a doubt, will buy at least one of these games very soon. The problem is, which one?

I'm a story-line type of player. I see games as a book, as weird as that sounds, so I'm always afraid of playing sequels first. My question is, should I buy Assassin's Creed first, or get the 3rd? I know there's a lot of background story, but the third one just seems SO much better in terms of game play (i.e killing, jumping on stuff, and shit like that)
I could just read the wiki, but I feel like I'd be missing a lot of the stuff that you'd see in actual gameplay.

So FunnyJunk, which should I buy first?

I'd say if you plan on playing all of them, play ACI first, because ACII advanced a lot on it.

If not, I'd say you could get away with just doing ACII, ACB and ACR, starting with ACII, as others have said ACI isn't that necessary

Play Ac2, Brotherhood, and Revelations. You'll learn all you need to know about Altair from these. That is all.

Can't give you much advice on AC but I completely get what you're saying about the story-line, games as a book thing. As much as I love games with multiple paths and outcomes (Heavy Rain, Dragon Age, L.A. Noire) they drive me crazy because I never know if I'm getting the 'best' story.

Assassin's creed 1 isnt really needed. they explain what happened in the first one in the intro to the second so if you want to save time you can skip the first. the second improves on the first a lot. but make sure you play in order. so AC2, AC brotherhood, and AC Revelations. they are good games

ACII is $20 now, Brotherhood is $30. I recommend II first. But if you want the full story, watch a playthrough of AC instead of buying. Story is amazing, but gameplay is repetitive, same thing in every level. Start with the second one

Yeah, I heard the first wasn't that great. I was just about to buy it, but thanks you I'll save a few bucks and buy the second (after watching the gameplay videos from the first, of course).

Thanks for the warning

I bought the second one, but never finished it. It's that repetitive(At least for me). ACII I bought last week Friday, finished it on Sunday that same weekend. Now I want to play Brotherhood or get the DLC for ACII. That's my current problem right now. I can't decide which one

I couldn't really help you there, but maybe you should ask the rest of the games board. I'm sure there's plenty of people here who can answer that for you.

I'm leaning towards DLC, since I like to have a complete collection of the games I like. An example would be Halo. I bought Wars first(but I've played the others) then ended up buying 2, 3, 1, ODST and Anniversary in that order

correction. I bought the first one and never finished it.

To understand what the brotherhood is about (yada yada lore and such) Then play the others. (AC1, AC2, ACB, ACR.)
AC3 seems, to me, to create it's own story off the backround of the previous games.

Yeah, I noticed that AC3 was a bit different than the others, since it's in a different era and the main character is Native American. But I'll start from the first then. Thanks.
