~This is a comment I posted a few days ago, I wanted to get some more opinions~

Hello video games board. I've been on funnyjunk for a while now, and I wanted to get some opinions. This last year I just went through a 3D animation and game design class. With my experience and some help from my friends, I plan on getting started on making a video game. Its going to start out small and (like minecraft) I'm going to release a stable beta for everyone to play until the full game is ready. I'm either going to have the game be really cheap or free (and make money off of advertising)--kind of like LoL. all I want from you guys is what your ideas of a perfect game is. After a few days of this being posted whichever response gets the most thumbs I will put into consideration. I'm used to using the unreal engine, but I plan on trying out the crycore engine for this project.

TL;DR:

Respond with a description of your dream video game.

okay, I got another one . . . it's a racing game. It's the future, yeah breaking new ground already, and there's this sport. It's where about 5 or 6 contenders zip along aerial suspended rails using a ball with handholds on the sides and a motorized wheel in the middle. They can only attack each other using their legs, which will have blades or projectiles on them. To survive or win a race, you gotta keep hold of your motor-ball and also fend off other racers. Grip strength and endurance would be a gameplay mechanic like this: getting hit from other racers and hazards reduces your grip strength, parts of the rail will have jumps and other hard turns so you'll have to tighten your grip which will drain your endurance, and if your grip strength or endurance runs out, you'll let go of the motor-ball and be eliminated from the current race. Dunno what I'd call it tho.

I would like a slow paced shooter, in a group with friends. Open world, set up camp and traps, etc. No COD bullshit. Different terrains snow, bush, desert, villages.

please don't do a post apocalyptic/zombie game
#31141 to #31098 - anonymous (05/25/2012) [-]
I've always thought that a post-apocalyptic kind of game where you have to rebuild a city/survive would be a neat idea for a game.... >.> it doesn't matter where it takes place... space... earth... some other foreign place... it doesn't even matter how the apocalypse happened. It's just a rebuilding game i guess. Idunno. Not the greatest idea but it's an idea.

what about a nuke/mega bomb blows up the world and at the start you can hide in fridge or something. and you can make it so it can be your story ex: you get to pick race where you are/or from when the explosion happens the story what happened before...

I don't want to get too specific... I want to hear more opinions about genre, point of view, replay value, free roam or mission based, etc.

how about a game like half life where shit goes down and aliens invade?
User avatar #31110 to #31105 - austinschut (05/25/2012) [-]
Possibly. I don't want to get to specific, but that sounds cool. I'd like to hear more about what people want as far as genre, point of view, replay value, free roam or mission based, etc.

people now days always complain about linear games and linear bland stories so going free roam is the best idea but also one of the hardest
User avatar #31116 to #31113 - austinschut (05/25/2012) [-]
Yeah, I definitely want a free roam game, but its just my opinion. I have to appeal to an audience, not just myself.

Why on earth would I tell you any of my great video game ideas?
User avatar #31106 to #31102 - austinschut (05/25/2012) [-]
Hey man, some people have ideas, some people have motivation. I just kind of want a survey of things people like in a good game. Things I should include in the game and things people don't like that I should't put in the game.

I know man, I was just messing with you. But I wouldn't take very much away from a biased internet forum if I were you.

Yeah, I know. I'm just not good with brainstorming and I want to appeal to gamers, thats why I posted here and not the brony board. Plus funnyjunk is worldwide and usually has good opinions. That's why I'm not asking facebook. Plus I come to funnyjunk everyday so its an easy outlet.

Well, I've always been fond of free roaming games, or games that allow me to progress the story and role play (IE create characters.)

I had an idea for a game with a time travel element, where the entire level had several different paths to win. At the end of the level, you have to go back in time and start again and take a different path, but avoiding the one you took before and avoiding your past self which could cause a game over. Back to the Future logic. So it'd be sort of a stealth game with multiple different paths where you couldn't be discovered by your past self.

If you need a writer or a character designer, I wouldn't mind throwing in some help for any project you're doing.

I'm getting the vibe that a lot of people prefer role playing, free roam games. It seems to be the most popular thing, especially in the funnyjunk community. As far as extra help goes, I'm pretty willing to have people help (I already have a dream team involved) But it seems like months before the any team will be built. I'm just planning for what people want to see in a possible game right now.

Have fun. Do some good work. Make some art. But if you ever need anything that an independent writer and bad artist can put forth, let me know.

I've also wanted a 3D platformer for awhile. Maybe one with good weapons and a good combat system. It's been ages since I've seen a good platformer.

Oh, and linearity is not a bad thing. I just always liked free roaming games. Note I said free roaming- not sandbox. GTA style sandboxes get boring to me after awhile. A sandbox is only fun if it's fun to get around and explore, and everything in GTA is so close together you don't need to explore.

But like I said, a linear story and linear gameplay has never been a bad game. In fact, if it's more linear it's easier to tell a better story. Gameplay and story need to fit together and- god this is turning into a rant.

Ok. thanks for the help. I'll definitely keep you in mind if I need story work later on.
