So it's snowed a metric fuck-ton where I live, to the point school was closed for my sisters and most people I know aren't in work, like my dad, uncle, most of my mates, etc.
I get ready for a nice long day of vidyagaems and drinking, and what happens? I get a phone call from work. I covered a shift for someone monday, worked a 5 hour shift yesterday, get to work a 5 hour shift on my birthday sunday, and on top of that, they want me to go in today to cover someone elses shift cause they can't get in.

There is so much snow that busses stopped running where I live half an hour ago, schools and University's are closed apart from letting people in to take exams if they have any, but my place of work manages to stay open and call me in.

And just to add to this, I live on top of three fucking huge hills which are utter cunts to walk down when their wet, let alone covered in snow and ice.

They can't fire you for this, if you live in the US you are not scheduled for work and it is physically impossible for you make it to work then you shouldn't have to worry about it, just call them and say that no plows have made it to your area and you can hardly get out of your house and for your own safety you won't be able to make it in.

I'm in the UK, haha. I work in a Card Factory as well (dunno if you have these in the US for non UK readers, basically a card shop).
In the end I was a bit iffy about going in until my boss said that they were closing at half 5 instead of 8, that I was ok with.
Tried to get me to go in tomorrow as well though, not having any of that, I'm staying up drinking all night so if their that desperate for me to work tomorrow they can have me in pissed as a fart from tonight.

Was pointless me being there as well, I only served about 20 people in the 4 and a half hours I was there today, my boss only served 11 people, and another girl who was in till I started only served about 30 people. The money we earned was so poor they'd have been better off shutting for the day instead, they'll lose money from what they'd have to pay us to what we earned.

Lol most businesses end up losing money on days like this, but for what ever cock eye reason they think they can make a few bucks by staying open.

Either way enjoy your Winter Spirits!

You sound remarkably knowledgeable about this Hypo....
Hmm, how many days have you had off work then? I think I've only had like 3 days off.
All of them for being ill. I think, it was a long time ago.

The last day off I had I took for calling in was 2 years ago when I worked at the Hospital. At the slightest hint of the sniffles you were supposed to call off, don't want to get a whole bunch of sick people even more sick.

But yeah if the snowfall is so great that going anywhere in an automobile is considered a risk, then you have every right in the world to call into work as they cannot force you to put yourself into harms way (unless that is your job but even then there are loop holes). I don't know too much about Labor Laws in the US, but this is one that I know the hospital I used to work at stressed a lot.
