Play safe and don't rush. Last hit minions as much as you can.

what theese FUCKHEAD people don't understand, is that last hitting the minions are the most important FUCKING thing to do.
FUUUUUUCKkkk they give you around 24g, and if you then last hit 100 minions you'll have 2 400 more gold then the other players.

Keep defensive early on and be ready to convert offensive when you reach a healthy level and set of items.

But how do I level and get gold by playing defensive?

Like vampir said, get last hit on minions. They'll also give you XP in addition to gold.
The "Always keep defensive" is just a failsafe rule that's always told to newbies till they get a hand of how LoL/Moba in general works.
You also could try killing Champions as they come as well, Bots are harder to take down as champions because they'll always have a retreat initiative, human players might get overconfident or simply not react fast enough when they realize they're in the shitter.

Also, defensive gives you the advantage of having a turret on your side, which can take down the health of minions and give you the ability to take them out faster and get XP and gold.

Probably Gangplank
First off his default melee attack allows him to slow down an enemy champion, though only by a small percentage, enough for you to keep giving damage.
His Ult (R attack) allows him to do a cannon barrage anywhere on the map (which really helps take out retreating enemy champions or assist allied champions on the other end of the map)
His W spell cures him of any crowd control effects that would slow him down (making any snare or slow spell basically useless) as well as give him a healing bonus
And his E boosts his attack damage (and speed, I think)
But also the fact he's a critical attack machine.
with his Q attack being ranged and allowing to give Critical strikes and on-hit affects, as well as giving extra gold if it kills whatever you were shooting at (minion or champion)
He's a pretty bad motherfucker.

What about Tryndamere? I've seen people using him own the enemy team to the point of banana rape, so I'm kind of curious.

Haven't played Tyrndamere, though he seemed to be a pretty tough dude in the few instances I've played with a player that chose him.
It's good to sample out the champions that come out for free play each week and get a feel for what you want.
Also,
Google any champion you want to try out's name and then put in "mobafire"
You can find guides on builds for that champion, both with masteries and with items.
