Fallout 4 may take place in an area referred to as "The Commonwealth." . For those who don't know what The Commonwealth is, it is an area of the wasteland on the East Coast that has access to very advanced technology and is a place where scientific advancements are still being made. As far as we know, the pinnacle of The Commonwealths scientific advancements is their androids. You meet three of them in Fallout 3 as part of a quest, one is a runaway who has wiped his memory and had a face change in order to help hide from anyone trying to track him; the other two are androids sent to track down the runaway and bring him back to The Institute.
At several points in Fallout 3 & its DLCs The Commonwealth is mentioned.
The Pitt: While Ashur is giving his speech to the workers he says "Our industry is the envy of The Commonwealth!"
Broken Steel: Dr Li apparently traveled to The Commonwealth after the liberation of the purifier.
Point Lookout: A missionary's terminal says that she has traveled south via riverboat from The Commonwealth (If I remember correctly it's because she was in a bit of trouble with the residents of The Commonwealth. Probably had something to do with spreading her faith.)
Fallout 3, The Replicated Man quest: This is where you meet the three androids from The Commonwealth. Zimmerman and his bodyguard are sent to the Capital Wasteland to retrieve Harkness, an android who wiped him memory and changed his face.
I think Fallout 4 will take place in The Commonwealth because Bethesda went a tad out of their way to mention this area not only in the main game but also in its DLCs. This sends up a red flag for me which means they may have been planning to set F4 in The Commonwealth or that they are at least planning on doing something with The Commonwealth.
I also predict Fallout 4 will be announced sometime during one of the big gaming expos in 2013.

I'm betting on another desolate location, filled with explorable wildlife. maybe more of colorado, maybe upstate new york. I'd like to see NOLA or marshlands/swampyness myself

basementgoblin (08/18/2012) [-] For all we know he was just commenting on how FNV played/the experience of exploring the Mojave itself. The quote could also mean absolutely nothing and he could just be leading us on.
It would also be very hard to do another game set in the west after the events of FNV because if you played through FNV and the DLCs you either cockblocked the legion from crossing the damn, helped them cross and broken the back of the NCR, or helped MR House and defeated them both. At the end of The Lonesome Road you also have the choice of nuking Caesars Legion, the NCR, both, or not nuke anyone. Making a sequel to NV or even a game set in the west would be incredibly difficult because of the ways the game could play out.
Another reason I based my predictions on Fallout 3 is because F3 is apart of the main series of Fallout games. F:NV was more of a "Spin-off"/off canon game. Therefore it made more sense to me to look towards Fallout 3 for clues as to where Fallout 4 could take place.
I would also like to see more marshlands in the next Fallout game. Point Lookout had an awesome creepy feeling due to running around in a dense swamp with crazy mutated rednecks trying to kill you. So I'd love to get more of that in the next game.

notquitefourchan **User deleted account** (08/18/2012) [-] the fallout series skips in time quite a bit. in 100 years ncr/legion/mr. house could all be defunct because of whatever. i don't think the quote means that we will see more of what we have already seen, just more stuff like we have already seen. desperate, barren waste. alaska, great plains, swampy everglades, et cetera.
