That's just war for you. Treaties were usually ridiculous until quite recently.

It isn't really fair to say they can "only" blame themselves. Yes, the Versailles treaty was unfair and ridiculously harsh, but the French weren't the only one's pressing these hard demands.

As for WWII: the word "Blitzkrieg" mean anything to you? France was conquered before the "whole world" had time to attack Hitler. Nazi Germany's two biggest enemies (USA and USSR) didn't join the war (against Hitler, that is) until a few years later.

Might be something to do with the fact that the USA wasn't one of Germany's enemies until the end of 1941?

Also, you're forgetting the French resistance fighters and the, uh... British. Y'know, the guys who used and supplied all those soldiers and from all over the world

Nope, I'm not forgetting them. I'm not saying there wasn't fighting in France between the fall of Paris and D-day, but officially, France was defeated. And yes, the British were fighting the Germans, but the countries that brought Nazi Germany down were still the USA and USSR.
