You already pay higher taxes for healthcare than any other country and yet get none of the results.

Well I understand that and debate is part of a healthy functioning democracy but we live in a world where we cannot escape government. We can however live in a world where our government is out in the open for all to see, one of the reasons the US is in the shit right now is a lack of transparency, we have similar issues in Canada as we apparently lost about three million dollars to our senate and governments invisible spending and possibly more. Now how do we solve this issue? We demand full transparency, we need to know how much the tax income is, where are taxes are going and what they are being spent on, all while ensuring the system is efficient and any unnecessary or ludicrous spending is cut, the thing about governments is that they spend your money, and you as a citizen have the right to know where that money goes and what it is being spent on. Libertarians are entitled to their own opinion but small government is impossible, as are reducing taxes by any massive degree, but if we ensure our taxes are spent efficiently, and know where they are being spent, then we might all be a little more willing to give our money away. This is how a government should function when it comes to taxes, and if they do anything less then we can assume they're being naughty with our money.

I agree with the transparency issue. However, I still believe that full transparency would result in a heavily convoluted wording and processes for future legislation and spending. In effect, the spending would still be up to the discretion of politicians that we entrust power to. The only counter measure would be to elect someone else, but there is no guarantee that they would do anything different. I believe the mess is in the way Congress is structured, new politicians are swayed to opinions by committee chairman and the allure of jobs in the private sector from lobbying. If they don't match the opinions of the party, their roles are downplayed and their home state would probably elect a person who would "do something". Overall, I do believe your argument is correct, however there are also problems associated with full transparency. I think we can both agree that the current state of spending needs improvement.
