| I shall repeat, nothing is KEEPING YOU from taking your own life. If you become depressed, there is NO OBLIGATION WHATSOEVER to keep on living. None. You wouldn't profit from life at all. If you're only waiting for eternal paradise, you just bide your time. It's like how you don't sit in a waiting room twidling your thumbs, you just read something or listen to something, or even (if you're productive) make something. | ||

| So love for my family is no reason? Wanting to make a dent in this crazy cruel world, to make someone smile using simply gestures and goodwill isn't a reason? Do I have to have a god to have morality? The experience of life, with it's ups and downs, laughs and sobs and equality and unfairness is something to be treasured. It is not dependent on believing in a religion. If I am weak minded then yes, I wouild kill myself if I had a terrible time of it. I don't think anyone hasn't considering self-harm at least once, be it cutting or drugs (including alcohol). This is part of evolution, and those with the strong mental capacity to survive the worst of it will procreate and continue on humanities path. Don't you dare tell me I have no reason to exist because I don't believe in religion. I would never say the same to you, following your preset rules of morality and existence. I look to the world with wonder, no matter what is thrown my way (or feeling bad for laughing at terrible things online). I am me. My morality is my own. I am proud. Pride in mortality. Heh, not often I hear that. I commend you sir. However, as for wanting to make a dent in this world, what have you done with your life? I want to know, because I'm curious. Not because I'm being a dick or trying to prove a point. I'm writing a book based on a theory I have about an evolutionary state past humans. Not at all, I thank you for your kind comment. I have done everything I can to help people in dire situations around me because of my own experiences when younger. I've taken it to the top, being part of a political pressure group from the ages of 16 to 19 pushing for young people’s rights (such as getting rid of the mosquito alarm, access to support services for self-harm, LGBT and domestic abuse) which was a wonderful experience but sadly ended in June this year due to lack of funding (big lottery funded us for quite a while beforehand). I've helped out a close friend when she was made homeless by allowing her to live with me for minimum living expenses until she got back on her feet. I am a volunteer carer for adults with severe autism and dementia, although I do also accept paid shifts whenever the charity I work for is short-staffed. I offer myself as a friend to speak to whenever someone is upset, and never break my promise to keep it all confidential. I'm currently studying socialism and politics in the hope to take it to degree level to continue on some of the political stuff I've done as a paid qualified adult. I don't class myself as atheist, since I do have a degree of spirituality to me. I was raised by a strictly atheist household (except for my uncle, who is Buddhist). I find organised religion a minefield so try to avoid it and come to my own conclusions about life. That said I have read the bible, certain Hindu parables, some Buddhist teachings and basic philosophy (including political philosophy as part of my course). I live my own life with the philosophy that no matter who is correct about the reason of our existence, or what happens when we die, compassion and genuine kindness is the most important aspect of our humanity. It cannot exist without cruelty, but can help combat it. If the atheists are right and I’m just going to turn into fertilizer, hopefully for a little while after I’ll be remembered for my actions to others. If religion is right and I have to answer to a deity, I am naïve enough to believe that my actions will hopefully excuse my lack of belief. For if they do not, then I would have to have worshipped a cruel god, something that I could not do. This seems like such a long paragraph now XD It’s hard to sum up without rattling on. Also I am a madam, but it's not obvious (especially on this website) so don't worry about the sir :) #62 -
infernosponge (10/12/2012) [-] 'there is LITTERALLY no reason to live as an atheist' You're a fucking idiot Yes, there is. Wanting to live is good enough a reason for me. You actually believe a magical sky fairy? The only reason you believe this bullshit is because you were born with it and never grew out of it because you're a fucking retard, you believe something that is in no way logical but you use your "faith" as a crutch because all religious people are weak and need some sort of retarded divine purpose to their life. I can't fucking wait until people like you are dead and gone from this world. You seem very steadfast in your belief. You may not realize it, but you're more of a follower of your own "faith" than you realize. Believing in something, weather good or evil, is what I want to see. I praise a god that you deem an idiotic idea. Evolution won't happen unless people fight for their way to thrive. If you don't believe in science's explanation of evolution then by all means, don't believe it (Even if it is the most sane and logical theory of how we came to be that we currently have). Just because you don't agree with this theory doesn't mean you should go off and worship a fake deity, try being agnostic instead. However, there is one thing you're right about, I am a devout follower of my own faith, and that happens to be faith in my logic and reasoning. I have no time for simple-minded people such as yourself. Just on a side note: You have no evidence of your belief, and yet you try to argue with me? Logical argument can only be achieved through real evidence and facts, both of which you lack. 1) You're version of evolution involves some kind of godly influence 2) No. 3) The proof against your belief is that there is no proof of your belief. Almost all of the HISTORICAL event's in the bible took place(Wars, battle's, etc) The rest is just a compilation of old legends, and extremely truth-stretched stories. If you believe in everything that's been wrote in ancient historical writings then i'm impressed...that you're not in a mental institution, that is. 1) Yes. This is true. 2) Why? If there is a mentally handicapped person, do you go up to them and laugh in their face and call them retarded if they have provoked you in no manner? It doesn't matter if you believe I'm an idiot, it's common courtesy to not insult others for no reason. 3) Okay Okay. You're being a REALLY STUPID MOTHERFUCKER! If there is no solid evidence in the fact that I'm a real person, then I'm not a real person is what you're saying. I'm fake. You're arguing with someone who isn't real! No, I don't believe everything that is wrote down in a book. I believe what I choose to believe. Stop calling me a stupid fuck you STUPID FUCK! I have had enough. You just keep insulting my intelligence while acting all high and mighty. Back up proof that there isn't God. Back up proof against EVERY SINGLE RELIGION! All of them. I dare you. If I can't stop you from disproving at least one, then you're right and there is no true religion. You really are retarded aren't you? I said that "The proof against your belief is that there is no proof of your belief", meaning that your belief has no evidence of it being plausible, I did not mean that you don't exist you fucking retard. Asking me to back up proof of a gods non existence is like asking me to back up proof of the non existence of Gigglefarts the Great, a god of whom I just made up right now. Asking me to disprove every religion? Now you're really sounding desperate. I can tell you that believing that there is some supernatural entity like Allah or Jesus is the same as lets say the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus. What do all of these things have in common? (Based on ancient stories, supernatural powers, don't actually exist except in deluded adults minds and the innocent minds of children. Good day sir 1) I really don't understand what you're saying there. If you're stating that you don't believe a religion because there isn't evidence for it, nor against it, then you don't believe anything that there isn't evidence for or against. If you have no proof of me being a real person and not a bot designed to argue with you, then I'm a bot designed to argue with you. 2) True, but there isn't anyone who believes in gigglefarts the great. Therefore, no one is going to argue the point against it. There are also no reasonings tward him existing, such as people saying in a document that he exists. 3) Well, let me say why I told you to disprove all religion. You are an atheist, or so I assume because you say religious people are retards. Therefore, you yourself have reason to doubt every religion. Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny have been proven to not exist. If you're good all year, live alone, and sleep all night waiting for presents, then you won't get any. It's science that he isn't real. Also, I don't believe I've told you which religion I follow, so you arguing the point of my religion is stupid. If you don't know what I believe, then why argue what I believe. Saying every religion is dumb means that you have to back up why every religion is dumb. 1) I'm saying that the only evidence I need of religion's non-existence is that there is no actual evidence of its existence whatsoever, it's not a hard concept to understand. 2) Just because a lot of people believe in something does not make it true, at one point everyone in the world assumed that the earth was flat. (In case you didn't know, its not) 3) Maybe they changed their ways, who knows? But a lot of people still believe in it, so it must be real right? I haven't asked about what specific religion you are because all religions involving any kind of spiritual deity are fucking retarded, i'm not biased towards any of them. All of them are made up, there is absolutely no proof for any of their existences. Stop trying to argue something that you can't prove. 1) If I told you I saw a kind of rino you've never seen, but failed to catch it because I'm a human and it's a rhyno and people believed me, would you call them idiots and proclaim that everything they do is stupid because they're stupid for trusting what someone else has said? 2) But we have proof they were wrong. If I told you the universe was flat, at this point we can't prove that. The universe may very well be flat, just VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY IMMENSELY THICK. I'm going to stand by that point until you prove me wrong. 3) Okay, well here's something I'd like to discuss then. In my book I'm writing I'm pointing out a theory I have about how humans will evolve in the future. Humans will be capable of taking hold of an energy I've dubbed Kito. Kito is the potential to change energy's states in electrons and protons (protons being a lot harder to manipulate than electrons). How we would do this is by using perception of reality, forcing through will alone others to perceive our power as being the true state in which the object weilds it. If someone shoots an arrow at you, you can turn that motion driving the arrow into a potential, then transfer that energy into a molecule of the air and launch that molecule at someone to kill them. That's the normal human level. God would be a being capable of creating a big bang with his infinite power, a singular conscious being capable of warping all power and knowledge. I have another theory about how there can be a "bio energy." Bio energy being inconceivably hard to control. You'd have to take the power of a star to make a human out of energy, or you could take the easy route that humans have already cultivated, essentially what stem cell research is hoping to do. Re-grow limbs using cells with cells that can do anything we want them to. Cont. 1) I would be skeptical about this "rare" rhino but I would still give some credibility to the person telling me they saw it, because you know, rhino's exist. 2) Who knows, the universe might be immensely flat. Human comprehension hasn't come that far when it comes to our universe. 3) Interesting as that theory and your book might be, it doesn't really have a place in this argument. 1) Mortal beings capable of concious thought exist. Therefore a being capable of concious thought that is on a higher level than any other can exist. 2) Exactly. That's why we think that people who thought the world was flat are idiots, they couldn't comprehend at that time that the world was round. 3) The comment bellow this one goes on to explain the relevance of it actually. What I said there was just a base for where I would continue. 4) Thank you for being so polite and logical (not that you weren't logical to start with) in this one. It's makes me a lot happier to debate this with you. 1) It COULD exist, but we don't have any evidence to imply that it does 2) I made that point earlier because the bible specifically said that the earth was a flat circle, which everyone believed until science was able to prove it wrong. 3) This a good scientific explanation of the content you are talking about, but all the content is purely theoretical (Jesus, Kito, God, etc) 4) No problem, I wasn't in the greatest mood earlier. I apologize for my actions. 1) Of course, although there are many other things which are feasible as well. 2) Isaiah 40:22, which says: "It is he who sits above the circle of the earth". Also in Job, where it says "Earth takes shape like clay under a seal." Have you seen what clay seals look like? Flat, and a circular like a pancake. 3) There is quite the amount of evidence for evolution such as the universal genetic code, fossil records, genetic commonalities, common traits in embryos, bacterial resistance to antibiotics, and more. Same with the big bang such as redshift, uniform background radiation, H/He ratio, etc. There is so much evidence to lead us too believe that it is what actually happened, but we will never know for sure unless we somehow develop a time machine lol. 1) That, too, is true. 2) Hm... it maybe taken as such. Then again, you can say that when God spoke the earth into existence he used a thu'um. 3) There is a bit of proof in those theories, this is true. My theory is more of a "this is what I think will happen if we meet these criteria" theory. It's like the theories that state that a black hole of energy will spawn if something goes beyond 4.14*10^32 degrees Kelvin. Evolution and the big bang are theories to how we came to be. I think the big bang theory is hilarious when combined with Christianity btw. I see it like this "God is an excentric, I don't believe he'd just go 'poof, there is the world.' He's far more likely to make a colossal explosion out of nowhere and mold the world as it is then." ... 3) Immortality is the next thing I'd like to talk about on the subject of Kito and whatnot. Using Kito there are teirs I've come up with. God tier being above all else, omnipotent power and a will that could outdo anyone's. Then Demi-God tier; power to warp base substances, res-erect itself (as Jesus Christ of Nazareth) using bio energy to restart its dead body. Immortal tier; below demi-god tier, only barely being able to res-erect itself, a being of this level would be considered a God by most, but is still subject to death's wrath. It's still possible to kill an immortal for good, you have to waste their kito first though. Next is the Mortal tiers; several of them, you can consider anyone more powerful in kito than you a higher mortal tier. I'd suspect the ranks would change constantly. Finally we have deamon tier; less kito power than anyone of a mortal tier, but their will can make the mortal tier's power will in their direction, taking mortal power and making it their own. You're using both at once. You're being logical in your reasoning, but every time you do you add a little bit of this attitude I'd call "being a pretentious prick." You keep calling me a retard and stating that everything that could be conceived as God is just a made up legend and complete bullshit. You can't except that there could EVER be an omnipotent being. That's being ignorant to the fact that omnipotence is the only way we could possibly out do mortality. As much as I disagree with zaperzero, please don't generalise every religious person as him: Yes, they believe what you've bluntly said, but that doesn't always make them fools; some use it as a way of motivation, like we do with the Internet and cats. Not trying to start a debate, just wish you wouldn't generalise every religious person as that guy. I'm sorry, but I just can't take religious people seriously as fully functional human beings. I can understand people coming from countries with horrible education systems or a very traditional way of life because they haven't really had the resources to make the decision for themselves. Then there's the people from 1st world countries who have access too all of this information that clearly denounces any kind of validity of their retarded religions, and yet they still continue on believing it. These are the people who have a true mental deficiency. Its just funny when any of them actually have the audacity to start an argument about the validity of their beliefs that truly makes me lose respect for religious people. Well, it's just what they think is right, and I respect them for it. I disagree that they are not fully functional; you know that there were many influential people that were religious, right? I for one think their beliefs are pretty crazy, especially as there's hardly any proof, but I do not think that makes them stupid at all, or mentally deficient - I actually find that itself pretty stupid. I know it's your opinion and all, but I don't think you've met enough religious people to base your argument off of. I myself know of smart Christians and religious people as my mum has faith because it gives her motivation and an idea of meaning; I think that's why many do so as well. I just don't like this over-generalisation. Why? He is browbeating an idiot, and generalizing that idiocy to the majority of humanity. I don't see why that's particularly clever, nor do I respect him any more for it. The fact is, if you can mock some large group's beliefs as being completely ridiculous, you probably don't understand them well enough.

johnshepherd (10/12/2012) [-] Dude, that's an incredibly un-Christian thing to say. "You don't have faith so your life isn't worth living" really? People can easily find God in their lives, and you saying they should die because they haven't yet is horrible. And by the way, before you say "atheistfag," I'm an industrial strength Catholic. I shall repeat, nothing is KEEPING YOU from taking your own life. If you become depressed, there is NO OBLIGATION WHATSOEVER to keep on living. None. You wouldn't profit from life at all. halfdemon (10/12/2012) [-] As an atheist, my purpose is to enjoy life and do my best to make sure the people i care about enjoy life. i dont need to dick around trying to please some big person in the sky because i want to get into his shitty choir boy club of two faced saints. thanks, but if it turns out a religion like christianity is true, i'll gladly go to a hell populated by atheists like me who did all their good deeds without an ulterior motive. What I was saying was, you have NO OBLIGATION. Religion, as I see it, is a blockade that says "it's against the rules to kill yourself." If I didn't have any religion, I'd probably just kill myself if I had a really good day. It's not hard to understand. It's the old idea of, get out while you're still ahead. Die happy, don't live until you're forced out by nature or man. I'm not a particularly sad person (in fact, I'm actually quite happy normally) nor do I feel like taking my life is a good idea at this moment. what your saying makes very little sense, are you saying people with religions only dont kill themselves becuase they fear what happens in the afterlife? as for no obligation, how about the obligation to your family and friends to not be a dick and kill yourself.
