Snape was in love with Lily but fucked everything up and she dated the guy who bullied him, so he became a death eater, and I'm pretty sure that means he killed at least 1 innocent person. He then gave half of the prophecy to Voldemort, leading Harry's parents to die, and only went to Dumbledore because Voldemort went after Lily. He didn't care if James or Harry died. Skip to Harry's 1st year. He treated Harry like crap and only saved him to try and end the life debt Snape owed his dad. He then tried to get Sirius and Lupin kissed in Harry's 3rd year because of some schoolboy feud. In Harry's 5th year he practically mind raped Harry and didn't help him at all. I'll look over the fact that he killed Dumbledore because it was planned, but in the 7th book he knew Harry was going to have to die and he did nothing to try and prevent him. He delivered the sword and that's it. Snape was a death eater who only 'repented' because his master wen't after the girl he was in love with who didn't love him back, and then proceeded to treat her son like dirt and badmouth her husband who sacrificed his life for her and her son.
