Who knows, maybe she will actually enjoy it. I have found that the evolutionary process and the amazing ability for an animal to adapt is one of the best parts of learning about them. I think if she keeps an open mind about it and actually reads into some of the evidence, she can at least have a greater respect for people in that field. I will admit I would be nervous on taking a creationist course.

I keep telling her that she would enjoy it if she gave it the chance, but alas she is quite stubborn( Italian blood). I show my curiosity about her religious views and at times I am quite interested, but the fact that she wont even give it a chance kinda irks me.

I completely agree, as much as I enjoy watching spongebob there's nothing educational about it (at least to me anyway). However, once again from the network's perspective, they're motivated by ratings/viewer counts on a program-by-program basis, so if a show, say TLOK doesn't meet their expectations, they have no choice but to try and come up with a solution that rescues their declining viewer count while catering to the needs of the fans who enjoy watching TLOK. Like I said, I agree that we need to value educational themes in children's programming, but the network probably isn't inclined to broadcast programs of such nature.

But epigenetics, being the linking factor between environment and DNA by making certain genetic areas available or unavailable , could nevertheless be affected by circumcision. That being said, I don't think circumcision has significant impact on epigenetics.
User avatar #169 - romanlettuce (07/28/2014) [-]
Actually, you would be surprised. The linked study may have indeed have been a mistake but the trauma that can be expected from circumcision, with or without anesthesia can most certainly change the way certain genes are activated.

Consider the glucocortoid receptor gene. Children who are circumcised or otherwise traumatically abused will have increased methylation of several sites of the glucocortoid receptor gene. This can have countless consequences of future physical and mental health. The link between early stress and genetic changes is still well established.
#240 - Anonomousthirteen (07/28/2014) [-]
My apologies. I am neither a psychologist, nor a geneticist, and as such, 90% of what I say regarding genetics and epigenetics comes straight from my asshole.

User avatar #172 - romanlettuce (07/28/2014) [-]
You're not wrong! Early stresses such as the trauma of circumcision can very well change the DNA. Look at my post above for a little more info on it.

I think our biggest worry right now is antibiotic immunity. We're unable to create new antibiotics fast enough to beat new strains of common diseases.
#169 - xxxsonic fanxxx (07/22/2014) [-]
guess why, people are eating antibiotics like M&Ms as soon as they feel ill
User avatar #238 - robertolee (07/22/2014) [-]
Our doctors have actually stopped prescribing antibiotics unless there is a serious health risk. They basically tell you to just get over it now.
User avatar #197 - organiclead (07/22/2014) [-]
Doesn't help that we pack out meat full of antibiotics as well.

In before "lol vegan". I'm not, I just know how the meat industry works.

a little over the top but I get your point haha I'm just picturing Raphael with a big orange toucan beak... images....
User avatar #20 - zanea (06/25/2014) [-]
Well the turtles shells are based on those of Red Eared sliders due to the ridges on their backs. All turtles have beaks but they arent exaggerated so implementing that would simply pull the nostrils down on the face and give them a more organic look. I'm an animal nerd so when movies put subtle details like that into their creatures it makes my heart smile
