ever heard of oxy-acetylene welding? not used very often, used for light metal, so those tanks can be used for welding.

there is no such thing as oxy-acetlyene welding, thats called brazing

obviously you don't know shit about welding. yes there is brazing. uses a type of filler metal that uses a flux coating. used on special metals, such a cast iron. oxy-acetylene welding was used before SMAW, GMAW and GTAW welding was invented. Still used in certain situations today. oxy-acetylene welding is a lost art. GTAW is more commonly used these days because it is more consistent and produces a better bead. better get your facts straight there bub.

like i said, it is a lost art. we use it quite often on our farm when we are dealing with light metals. my high school taught us how to use it, just to give us a back ground and show us why it isn't used much any more. It cannot penetrate the thicker metals, as it does not produce the heat needed to ensure a strong weld. those tanks today are mainly used for cutting, but will be phased out by the plasma cutter. just as the other advances in welding have nearly phased out oxy-acetylene welding.

and those 2 gases are not flameble so no dangere there

acetylene is flammable mate its very flammable the main problem is if any of the sparks stays in the same place on the hoses for long enough for it to melt through even then the flashback valves would cut any supply to the hoses instantly so no real danger unless the firm is a bunch of cowboys and they didnt fit them then yes possibly a very big bang is imminent

if acetylene is flammeble then i a going to have a try at that tomorrow, asked my teacher in welding last week if it was flammeble and he said no... soo, lets have a try tomorrow, ether i return here with eyebrows or not

when it burns it creates a deep orange flame which creates very dirty smoke which is known in the trade as tadpoles or more commonly among engineers. spunks
