This is fucking retarded. You can't run super crazy visuals at 60fps (or more) without dropping $1500+ on a tower. PC gamers want to pretend like PC gaming is technologically better, which it is if you're willing to spend the price of a used car of a fucking PC.
#188 - fefe (04/15/2015) [-]
Might be a bit pricey, but it's definitely not $1500+ pricey. Worth it because you get a computer + a gaming console out of it. Comparatively, you can get a shitty desktop to browse the internet and perform basic tasks like word processing for a little over 300 bucks (assuming you're running Windows), plus another 500 or so bucks for a console + accessories. Then you have to pay for online services which is another $60 added on every year.
Over the long run, PC gaming runs about the same price and you have the options of mods, emulations, wider variety of games, etc. The only benefits I can see to owning a console over a PC would be to play the exclusives or play with your friends, and if you only browse the internet on your phone. Price and performance are definitely not good reasons to own a console over a PC for gaming.

Where do people pull pc price tags from? 1500$ is insain, you only really need to spend that much money if you want the fanciest shit (amusing you are building it yourself)
my pc was 750$ , 400$ initally, but I spent 250$ on upgrades such as a new mouse, mic and headset and replacing a broken cpu. it doesn't take a scientist to build an efficient pc.
and 60fps with quality visuals is really easy to achieve
the most expensive part to buy is usually the graphics card, a good one can be more than 250 bucks.
the best part is I'm not paying 50$ a year for access to internet I already pay comcast for, I'm not paying another 50 bucks a year for backwards compatibility(seriously sony?) I've getting discounts on new games, I spent 100 bucks on games last year during the steam summer sale/humble bundle, and got more than 50.
Some of the games included would be skyrim, metro2033, both portals, fallout3/NV, dark souls, far cry 3, all of the saints row games, etc. That's not counting the winter sale. Or all the free games given out on a regular basis (battlefield 3, half life 2, left for dead)
With a console your paying 400 bucks out of the box, assuming you want internet thats 50 bucks a year, so let's say 450 bucks to get going. But the consoles arent backwards compatible, guess it's only new games then, let's say you want 2 games. average price for nextgen games is 60 bucks but let's say gamestop has some used ones. so they are 50 each. 550 with games.
now let's assume you didn't buy any new games throughout the years.(assuming you play online often)
year 1 550
year 2 600
year 3 650
year 4 700
woah woah wait, you still gotta pay 50$ a year for online services, and the console is not being upgraded or anything?!?!?
with the money I save on sales and not spending 50 a year my pc I've been able to upgrade it proper and cheap
I bought it in 2008 an it has lasted till 2015 and is STILL GOING STRONG thats 7 years! Roughly the average life of a console.
anyways to make a long story short
1500$ for a pc means ur either not building it or making a pretty damn good one
500$ budget will get you started on the path to better savings and gaming
60 fps has been a standard on pc since the late 90's
I've had a lot to drink, little time to write, and no grammar skills

How I see it
console is released, developers make game but have to lower quality and whatnot in order to run on the consoles hardware. pc users get the port with lowered console quality (if the game was designed for console then ported after) and is usually fixed by modders.
Watchdogs is a pretty good example,
game was supposed to look cash
console versions released
game doesn't look cash
no sweat, pc version coming soon
game looks like console version, oh shit
pc modders don't even have to mod the game
they find hidden settings that were ARTIFICIALLY lowering the graphics so that high settings look like console versions.
we fix it, game looks good
then we mod it and now it looks cash
we stop playing it in 2 days, gameplay terrible

While I agree with you there was the fair amount of whining none stop from the PC people, like I dont disagree yes the PC is better for many reasons, and yes they are right to be mad they didnt get it right away, butthey bitched about it for months until it was finally announced to be on PC, then it was just a ton of hurr durr PC master Rice. Some people just need to chill out and just be happy they can play the game, goes the same for people going hurr dur console master race, but I hardly really hear that to be fair.

But consoles have no reason to exist, they're just marketed in a way that makes it look like it.
Windows has gamepad support and it's far from a big deal to hook a PC up to a TV, especially with HDMI being so prevalent

Actually, you can get PCs at the same price as a console that function just as well, plus they have a fuckton of extra features. The only catch is that you have to build it yourself, which takes 30 minutes at best.
Handheld consoles and the WiiU/Anythingnintendo is different though. The reason the Xbone and Ps4 are literally worthless nowadays are due to the fact that they are trying to be more and more like PCs.
PC gaming has more to consider? Well, kind of, since you have more options, since you're not stuck with one texture set and your hardware isn't standardized.
But really, you don't have to do any of that. My PC costed me 1000$, I've had very few issues exclusive to PC when it comes to gaming, and playing the game consists of going to my steam library and hitting play. Do other people not know how to problem solve or find what settings work or something?

If you'd actually change your mind then sure, I'll bite. I highly doubt you will though because you reek of PC mustard rice.
Consoles are cheaper, full stop. If you want a mediocre PC that you build yourself (that will either run games at 60fps OR max graphics), a decent monitor, mouse, and keyboard, you're gonna hit $700 right there. Not only that, but it's not plug and play, you gotta put that shit together and have at least some computer knowledge to get it set up with software after that. Add onto that that you can get a used console for a fraction of the price (I got my 360 for $150 used, and my Wii for $50) that is guaranteed to run all of the games for it that come out for it regardless of its age. The new gen are the same in this way; you can get it on sale used for dirt cheap in a year or two for a pittance, as well as dirt cheap used games, and you know it'll faithfully run those games and any others that come out with it. Combine that with the ease of use and social aspect (good luck getting split screen on the PC) and consoles have enough benefits to be on par with PC gaming. Depending on what you want in your gaming device you may prefer one over the other, but saying one is better by only looking at the technical aspects while ignoring virtually every other benefit is dishonest at best and ignores the things that many people actually want from their gaming platform.
All in all, I've probably spent $800 max on my consoles over the last 15 or so years, including games, and I haven't had to update any graphics cards or anything like that. Sure, if you are willing to drop enough money you can get a PC that blows the fuck out of consoles, but it will ALWAYS cost more than just buying a used console (or even a new one after the price goes down some) with used games that you won't have to bother with for a while. And this is of course ignoring the fact that although consoles typically have about 7 years between the releases, the games are often still designed to be released on the older console as well as the newer one for a couple of years, extending their life even further. I mean, my 360 runs BF4 beautifully, but for a PC to run that game well with good graphics you would be dropping as much or more than I've spent on consoles pretty much my whole life.
You blocked me, but this is nigeltheoutlaw.

I find myself somewhat disagreeing with the regardless of age bit. A poorly taken care of console (Unless it's nintendo, in which case it's pretty much indestructible) will result in scratched up discs and eventually it'll stop functioning. But hey, for 150$, It's not a bad deal. It's just not that amazing.
Yes, they are quite easy to use by comparison, although my argument was that PC wasn't rocket science, or hell, it doesn't even require much computer knowledge. Connect the bits in a box and install an OS, although it does look a bit daunting. Hell, some people will just use the box the parts came in.
Actually, split-screen is fading out of the gaming market pretty fast anyhow, and there are some PC games that run splitscreen now because we aren't limited by monitors and monitors alone. If I wanted to play a splitscreen game with a friend, I could hook my computer up to my HDMI enabled TV. But 10 years ago, that wasn't possible, and the resolutions were already small as shit, paired with small monitor screens.
Indeed, if you're looking to spend as little as possible and you don't mind dealing with a lack of quality (Not gameplay wise), then consoles are probably the better choice, assuming you can get them for a cheap amount.
Yeah, that's certainly a small amount of cash to spend on gaming, although I've yet to upgrade my own graphics card on my current 3 year old computer. and my friend's 500$ Rig has lasted him 2 years with no upgrades required, and performs better than next-gen consoles gaming wise. And if he wasn't morally obligated, he could spend no money on games by torrenting them or by only getting one or two long-lasting ones. Then again, with steam sales, you aren't really spending much money even if you do buy alot of games.
Yeah, but this is missing a few points, and while it does sound like a sound argument, it's not entirely. If you spend money on getting a new PC, it's going to cost more, and if you spend money on a console 2-3 years after its release, or even one thats over a decade old, It's not going to cost as much as if you'd bought it back when it was new. You can buy older PCs for a low cost, and you can get outdated parts that will still function for a low cost too. It would be illogical and nonsensical for consoles to, just by virtue, cost less, even though they still run games like PCs.
Personally, I just hate the Ps4 and Xbone, because they're trying hard to be like PCs. Instead of being like the WiiU or 3DS, and doing their own thing. Because while a new gaming platform at the same level of a PC would be nice competition, a console simply cannot be a PC.

but why buy and play mobile games when theyres hand held games like the ds and vita? because its just easier. its the same thing. to play a console game i pop it in and play the game. pc gaming has more to consider. is my hardware good enogh, are my drivers up to date. then theres allof the things you cant expect. my computer was freezing within ten minutes of turning it on due to static apparently. then theres memory and all sorts of other considerations that need to be taken into account
