Like I said, it will never end because everybody's certain they're right and that those on the other side of the fence are wrong. Personally, I am on the opposite side of the fence than you, I could go on about why, but you would continue to argue with me over nothing, and I would only be tempted to do the same.

So instead I'll say this, and I've said it a thousand times before and maybe one day people will listen and agree. It's time to stop arguing over the past. Look back and learn from what we can from history, but as for the origins of how we got here? It's only going to cause more problems the more we argue about it. Instead of arguing over something we'll never be able to settle, how about instead we argue about the future, and how to get there? The less we argue about where we came from, the sooner we're in a distant galaxy sipping on space cola.

But until then, our world is dying, and it's not getting any better while we just sit around and try and prove each other wrong in beliefs of the past. We should be trying to solve current issues, not just trying to win a grudge match because we have something against the other party.

Also, because I just KNOW that you're going to say that all the wars in the past were over religion because of me saying to learn from history:

Keep in mind I'm going off of memory here. Out of the 10,000 or so wars we've had in recorded history, if I recall correctly, only 14% have been about religion. Almost 80-90% of those were involving Islam. Every other war out there was about politics, power, and poon money.

It's time to stop trying to argue over a topic that will always be around and stop disqualifying discoveries because they might argue with our point of view. Both sides do this and it's quite apparent too, and they will continue to until we stop acting like there's such a huge difference between the two.

Go back to Reddit if you want to circle jerk about how much we Christians suck.

That would be nice, too bad there are a lot of people who are against, well, any sort of advancement whatsoever because of their religious beliefs. I honestly don't care who believes what or when or why but when people start using those beliefs to make decisions that could affect the general population, maybe seriously cripple human advancement (like the dark ages) or even force children to believe what they want them to believe so early that they never have a chance to find their own way and are quite frankly being forced into the herd without even realizing it, that's when I start to get frustrated. Also I wasn't going to bring up any war related arguments because it would've been completely off topic and I'm not trying to rage at you like an asshole like some people do but then again regardless of how few there were in comparison it still would've saved billions of lives and even entire cultures over the course of history.

It's pretty widely accepted now, but "they" is actually incorrect in this case. Anon is actually right.
#224 - mummyslittlebitch (06/20/2014) [-]
Some finicky asshole sitting on tumblr or whatever doesn't determine what proper language is. Popular usage, pervading dialect, and how people actually speak do. English speakers have been using they as a gender neutral pronoun for a long ass fucking time. No, it is not "incorrect", you maniac. And since there is no pronunciation for a / in spoken English, I suggest you come up with a better alternative than he/she or she/he or whatever. Until there is another, better, actual single word to replace it, people are gonna keep saying they.

The way I see it, it's going to be a never ending circle jerk. But one that will cause the each one to thrive off the other. Science will always do something to prove religion wrong which will better society, and religion will always be there to piss them off, which will continue to better science.
User avatar #112 - commontroll (06/18/2014) [-]
You do realize that saying "The good thing about science is that it's real whether you believe it or not," can be said by theists, right? Both sides believe they're right, and until there is absolute proof one way or the other, people will still be saying that.
#192 - youknowwhothisis (06/21/2014) [-]
And that's why instead of slapping you in the face with some book, science goes through tests and experiments that have withstood years, some even centuries years old. Now of course these findings are still subject to change because science obviously doesn't claim to know everything unlike some people. So yes both sides can say it, both sides can say whatever they want, but the difference is science has the stuff to back it up. Rather than screaming "RESPECT GOD YOU HEATHEN YOU KNOW NOTHING AND GOD KNOWS ALL" with about as much proof as spiderman being real.
