You remind me of a guy I used to know back when I worked at a local shelter. He was an older man who would generally only come in when the weather was **** , I later found out he spent most of his nights on the streets. He didn't talk much at first, but one of the other volunteers, a buddy of mine named Brian, he liked talking with the people that came by the shelter. He only ended up leaving college with three things: an apartment, a kid, and a wife he'd known for all of two months before he made the mistake of knocking her up. He kept all three for about as long as it took him to walk in on his wife ******* one of the neighbors when he got home from work. He kept working, got his own place, and did everything he could to care for the one thing in his life that he cared about-his daughter. Of course, the mom got custody in the divorce because welcome to the late 20th/early 21st century, but she couldn't refuse him visitation, so he could spend every other weekend with his baby... and she could spend the rest of the time raising that baby on tales of how ****** her father was. By the time his daughter was a teenager, she didn't want anything to do with him. When she left his life, life left him. He lost his job and his apartment, and that's what brought him to us.

**** , it may sound cliched, but it ******* hurt Brian and me to hear. We asked if there was anything we could do for him, but of course he refused us. He told us that just listening to him was more than he could have ever expected from us. Brian wasn't having that, though. He asked Lee if he knew where his daughter was living now. He wasn't sure, but he assumed she would either be living with her mother or going to college somewhere nearby. Brian immediately took out his wallet and pulled out fifty bucks, handing it to Lee. Again Lee tried to refuse his help, but Brian told him to **** off and take it, get cleaned up, and find his ******* daughter. He told him that she was older now, and that maybe she would be able to reconsider believing the poison her mother had pumped into her brain. Lee was quiet for a long moment, then he slowly reached out and took it, before bursting into tears and hugging Brian. Brian said "It's all gonna be good, Mr. Lee. You can't let that bitch get between you and your kid." Lee shook his head and said "Christ, man, I don't know how I'll repay you for this. Please, though, enough of that 'Mr. Lee' **** . My name's Sirius."
