They are indeed. But we clearly are working from different understanding of what race means. While you might change your passport, how does that change your make-up? Not at all and first and how much further afterwards?

As ol' Freud put it, the super-ego is defined and set by your background and upbringing and ultimately what makes us who we are. Your skin colour is as much as part of that as anything else, there is no reason not to take pride in every part of who and what you are.

It was not suggested in the OP that aggrandizement was the next step.

Ah. Trying to change the basis, eh? But I've caught you out. You were declaiming the boy for being proud of his heritage, and embodying those parts, be it skin tone, national boundaries, characteristics, or hair colour, he has a right to be proud if it. You are seemingly unable to divorce the description from the embodiment.

Poor you.

I abandon this attempt to teach a fish to ride a bicycle.

I think you have misunderstood me, I am perfectly fine with national pride because one can change and chose their nationality. I am against racial pride because it is impossible to switch races/put in effort to become a different race. I am totally okay if you don't want to continue this conversation because topics like these are difficult to discuss online.

It is illogical to have pride in anything you accomplish because you exist for reasons beyond your control and accomplished those things only because others came before you and opened the path or helped you along the path to your accomplishment. Every doctor depends solely on his professors teachings every engineer can attribute his success to the professors of the engineering program who taught him the tools necessary to accomplish his job. Even Einstein and Newton would have been nothing if not for the hundreds of predecessors and thousands of years of knowledge they inherited through which they were able to meld previous knowledge together into a new understanding. We can take credit for nothing in life because everything we do depends on someone else's previous work.

Ah. Another liberal pseudo-Marxist socialist nonsense-monger, eh?

Belonging to a race and demonstrating the worthy and even noteworthy attributes of that race is worthy of pride. The hospitality of the Irish and the Scots, for example.

Belonging to a race that plays its part in the world and taking its role and responsibility to its poorer neighbours seriously, reached by dint of electing leaders which represent your values, is worthy of pride. The fervour of the Americans or the charity of the Swiss, for example.

Two Prime grounds why one may take pride in their race and should be ever-vigilant to uphold such in the face of challenge and all the risk that comes with it.

Patriotism insures citizens keep an eye on their leaders.

To think otherwise is to cast yourself adrift on a sea of irresponsibility and look after only your own ass for altruistic motives.

Do you even *own* a dictionary?

Obvious troll is obvious. I pity the fool.
User avatar #58 - yofutofu (10/17/2013) [-]
Is Scottish a race? Is American a race? No, someone does not have to be born in Scotland and be white to be Scottish.
User avatar #61 - ivroht (10/17/2013) [-]

Who said anything about being white? Being born somewhere is only a patrial characteristic. Are there no other skin-colours in Scotland? Get a grip.

What are you? 12?
User avatar #62 - yofutofu (10/18/2013) [-]
So you agree with me? Racial pride and National pride are two different things.
#63 - ivroht (10/18/2013) [-]

#67 - yofutofu (10/18/2013) [-]
I think you have misunderstood me, I am perfectly fine with national pride because one can change and chose their nationality. I am against racial pride because it is impossible to switch races/put in effort to become a different race. I am totally okay if you don't want to continue this conversation because topics like these are difficult to discuss online.
#142 - ivroht (10/18/2013) [-]
They are indeed. But we clearly are working from different understanding of what race means. While you might change your passport, how does that change your make-up? Not at all and first and how much further afterwards?

As ol' Freud put it, the super-ego is defined and set by your background and upbringing and ultimately what makes us who we are. Your skin colour is as much as part of that as anything else, there is no reason not to take pride in every part of who and what you are.

It was not suggested in the OP that aggrandizement was the next step.
#123 - conebonesixtynine (10/18/2013) [-]
I'm amazed of how easily you talked rationally about this topic without giving up to the sweet sweet temptation of calling him a well deserved insult for his narrow mind.
Kudos to you Yofutofu.

A broader and more open perspective represents a narrower mind?

Interesting concept...

User avatar #45 - yofutofu (10/17/2013) [-]
You are proud of him, not yourself though for having your grandfather fight in Korea. Subtle but crucial difference.
User avatar #47 - ivroht (10/17/2013) [-]
And yet it makes him proud to be the race he is because that race does the kinds of things his grandfather did.

None so blind as those who will not see.
User avatar #50 - yofutofu (10/17/2013) [-]
Just because he has that pride, doesn't mean it's logical to have. It's like saying you're right because you're the offended person in the situation.
#72 - oedad (10/18/2013) [-]
User avatar #55 - ivroht (10/17/2013) [-]
Yes, that^s exactly what it does because it is the logical extension of what his grandfather had. Are you hallucinating?

I did respond to him properly. refer to comment 19.
You see, i didn't insult him personally, and my statements where backed up with my reasoning. I didn't just say "Tard, where not asking you, faceless drone".
User avatar #37 - ivroht (10/17/2013) [-]
Dude, you said he was wrong (your opinion), called him stupid (your opinion) and said his point was trivial (your opinion).

Just because you've got an excuse doesn't mean it's fair or polite or dignified or civilized.
As ye sow, so shall ye reap.
#38 - yofutofu (10/17/2013) [-]
You are misreading, i didn't say that HE was stupid, i said that having pride in your race is stupid. It would be the same as me having pride in my gender, i had nothing to do with me being a man so why would i go around saying i'm proud of my genetic configuration? Pride should be reserved for achievements.
#46 - ivroht (10/17/2013) [-]

Total.
Crock.
Of shit.
Seriously.
#49 - yofutofu (10/17/2013) [-]
You see, you are listing examples of national pride, not racial pride.
National pride is usually associated with race but they are two separate things.

I'd just like to say that I'm sorry that retarded bitch "lustad" deleted your comments on one of her "funny comics".

You were just expressing your thoughts on the subject of that comic (with wich I ABSOLUTELY agree, her comics are fucking un-funny pieces of dragon shit) and would just like to inform you that she even went and disabled the comments because the majority of them (and the top rated ones) were negative towards her content.

Pathetic, eh?

i know , i was trolling , and also there has been many studies each using different systems of classifying the "the success" of a nations public school system so no conclusive results can be made , also I used severely incorrect grammar to increase the anger of fj :P ( I meant no offence to the American, because saying they're all Unintelligent would be a Ignorant statement).
