Hate isn't taught. Hate is learned from experiences and is reinforced by logic.
Hate is natural. It's what made us survive for so long.
After all, who taught the first men to hate?

I don't know how your teachers where, but I wouldn't give a weapon to half of them. Either because they wouldn't hit shit or because they aren't mentally stable enough to handle a gun.
Also, where put it?
If they lock it up in class, they will likely forget the key for the gunsafe and therefore the weapon is useless anyway
If they carry it arround, there's the risk of a student taking it from them and therefore, you make it possible for students to go on a killing spree in affect or wouldn't have weapons access.
tl;dr: Arming teachers probably won't help or cause even more troubles.

Except that the people who typically are involved in school shootings are already irrational enough that they probably don't really care about the likelihood of being shot. Add to this another 5-10 untrained or novice "good" shooters and you have a recipe for a lot of collateral damage.

It would have to be purely voluntary, though. It would be worse to arm a teacher who isn't comfortable wielding a firearm than to not arm an entire school, as the teacher will either be too scared or nervous and may end up shooting the wrong person, or not be willing to shoot the right person, therefore basically giving the gunman an extra weapon. Also, either the firearm would need to be in an irremovable mini-safe/lockbox inside the classroom (that only the carrying instructors have the code for), or be on the teacher, in a holster (not a purse, handbag, briefcase, etc.), at all times.
As far as the number of weapons on campus, my personal opinion is that only a few teachers would need to be armed - depending upon the size of the campus, number of students, and whether it was indoor or outdoor (due to proximity of other possibly armed teachers and at-risk students). Assuming an active shooter situation, an outdoor school would have people running further distances to reach a classroom in a lockdown situation, and with more ground to cover, you would most likely need more armed teachers to protect the students while they get to safety. An indoor school (assuming traditional indoor, classrooms every 50 feet) the students would be ducking inside classrooms faster, and the general size of the building would be smaller than that of an outdoor school, on top of being in cramped quarters (hallways with a bunch of panicky kids), too many teachers with a firearm would be more of a hazard.
Again, this is all personal opinion and based upon generalized situations.
Also, I would love to see the look on some angsty teen's face as he walks into a classroom as a roided out teacher ran at them in updated battle regalia with a spear.
