Essentially the British and American way of writing down the Day, Month and Year are different ( British being Day/Month/Year and American i believe to be Month/Day/Year ). With this in mind the whole concept of 12/12/12 looking the same both ways indicates that we have both been trolled.

Yeah i'm an American and while I use our way (Month/Day/Year) it never made any sense to me.. It should go from smallest increment to largest ( Day/Month/Year) who the heck decided to mix it up!

When you talk to you say, using December 5 as an example, "December 5th, 2012" or do you say "5th of December, 2012?" I'm guessing that's where the American system of Month/Day/Year came from.

That's possible though I would guess they follow each other. I personally say it both ways (though more often Month/Day/Year) but I know plenty of people in EU who say the day first. So again who changed that then?

I know no one on here realistically knows the answer it's more food for thought.

The Japanese always go from largest to smallest, both in their dates and in their addresses.
I think that might make even more sense because then you start with the broadest term and then get more and more specific.

That makes more sense too. As long as your extracting or compiling the data.

Ex: 10= 10x1, 100=10x10=10x1x10. So ~30 Days fit in 1 month and 12 Months fit into 1 year.
