The United States was actually on track to reach Berlin before the Soviets.

General Eisenhower ordered General Patton to stop advancing because he didn't want to fight on any German soil that was going to be in the Soviet sector anyway (the future divide of Germany had already been decided prior to invasion).

If the United States hadn't of fought Japan in the Pacific, Russia would have never been able to reinforce their front with Germany because an invasion by Japan was certain.

While it definitely was a combined effort, I think it's fair to say that the United State's entry into the war was necessary for any sort of allied victory.
