No. Just... no.
Japan's already got its assassins. They're called FUCKING NINJAS.
All this desire to see AC in Japan is just 12 year-old fanboyism for cool stuff, like ninjas, samurais, katanas, shurikens and whatever.
In Feudal times, Japan was mostly cut off from the rest of the world (well, except for resisting a fucking Mongol Invasion). There would be no connection whatsoever between the plot of the game (remember, Assassins vs Templars, phylosophical stuff like "free will") and the setting.
As a sidenote, ever since I played AC2 I prayed that one of the next games will be placed in America's Independence War. And whoop-de-fucking-doo, guess when AC3's setting is placed?
That's because it makes perfect sense for a conspiracy story: a young country's need for independence, the whole backstory of the Freemasons and the Founding Fathers (which were allegedly Templars)... it just provided a background for a shit-ton of historical figures to be messed with.
What would you have in Japan? Daimyos fighting for territory. Wow, really fucking interesting. Not to mention that "Feudal" Japan means quite a large timespan, whereas shinobi (ninjas) started being known (as a group) around 15th century, in the Sengoku period.
Not to mention that nobody in Japan had the technology necessary to create one of the trademark items of the AC franchise: THE FUCKING HIDDEN BLADE.
Now a Chinese Assassin (as shown on AC: Embers) makes a whole lot more sense.

...she is Chinese. She CAN'T be a ninja/shinobi, because they only existed in Japan.
And no, Jun can hardly be a Japanese name. It really isn't that hard to make a difference between a Chinese and a Japanese name. Heck, it's not hard to distinguish between Japanese and Korean names.

There you go. Google is full of fan arts.

Because it would suck?...
The only thing worthy of the idea is the potential to climb architecturally accurate buildings (because, let's face it, AC3 aside Ubi really has made great work out of historical cities).
The combat would just be.... no, let's not go there.

Just shooting from the hip. I mean They got really good stealth in AC, there's not really really a good ninja stealth game out. And like I said, tweak the game, ninjas never really were in open combat like you see in AC. I don't really see how bad it could be aside from combat

Look, trust me, I like AC games (AC3 left aside), but that series has nothing in common with the concept of "stealth", it's just partially advertised as such.
The only "stealthy" part I can think of is walking on catwalks and beams above enemies and some levels where you can see a simple pattern of patrols and walls that you can hide behind.
But for the love that all is good and great, AC games don't even have a corner-cover mechanic. From what I heard, Deus Ex does a much better job at that.
Oh, not to mention Batman: Arkham series. Now THOSE are stealth with A REALLY GOOD combat mechanism.

Yeah, I get it. I was stuck in between the 12 year old mindset of what was cool, and the 20 year old mindset of what would be cool now. I like ninjas, they're just represented in the wrong way. And I love AC, and I got caught on what I like the most, and that was free running.
#96 - tkfourtwoone (05/14/2013) [-]
Now, yes, the free running part (the main theme of AC, honestly) is mostly done OK. Even though I hated the shit out of Rome, from my point of view it's a level design nightmare, I could barely make out a free running fluid path that was longer than 50 paces.
However, Firenze.... ah, Firenze... and climbing the Hagia Sophia in Constantinopole... priceless!

Unless you were one of the female assassins that already existed in all of those games. In real life, it would suck to be in those eras, but if a Native American can walk the streets of colonial America and basically win the Revolutionary war by virtue of looking badass, I think a woman can make it too.
