You can't just generalize all fps's now to CoD, thats fucking retarded.

It's the same as generalizing all MMORPG's to WoW though, which isn't exactly wrong. All games have their own quirks but they follow the same standard format, in this case CoD is the generic FPS game that others follow.

K, I've hardly played Halo campaigns, but I know the only thing that regenerates without a health pack is your shield, it isn't linear (at least ODST wasn't), there are quite a few secret shit to be found (at least in Bungie's games), there are more than grunts, I personally never used cover, you can turn on the skull thing to make it so there are no checkpoints, and there really isn't any bloom other than in Reach. And that is only one of the most popular FPS games out there

Skulls were a great innovative idea that changed the campaign mechanics. The difference is, is that Bungie made their own game without another big corporation breathing down their neck. Also in most of the Halo games after 2 excluding ODST (I think) there was no health bar or health kits, just a shield and the standard flashing red screen; Reach might've had health I really can't remember. ODST wasn't as linear but the others were, while there were quite a lot of secrets to be found, that was Halo's quirk that I mentioned in the previous comment, Bungie were good at lore righting and they were good at making people want to find secrets. But the game follows the traditional FPS format, kill group of people, proceed to next objective.

And that is pretty much Doom as well. Kill group of enemies, go to new room. Only difference is Doom has bosses
