I did my best to organize these into a rough chronological order. It's hard because the creator is an artist first and a writer second, so he tends to make ideas as they come instead of worrying about a linear timeline. You can't take the eagles to mordor for a myriad of reasons. So yeah, second one.

1- Eagles, as servants of Manwe, and can't interfere directly in the destiny of middle earth
2- Eagles are a lot easier to spot than hobbits - Sauron would've seen then coming from a long long distance away.
3- Eagles are very powerful, and thus, very easy to corrupt (Remember, that's why they chose a hobbit as the ringbearer - his powers being close to nothing, the ring barely affected him)
4- The eagles in the hobbit were afraid of commoners with simple bows. The archers of the army of Sauron would decimate them as soon as they got close.
5- Last of all, the ring needs to be dropped at the Crack of doom, at the end of a tunnel - So no dropping it from the air
So, to recap: If the eagles decided to interfere with middle earth affairs,manage to go by unnoticed by Sauron's watchers, undetected by the eyes of Sauron and uncorrupted by the Ring, and manage to slip by the archers and ballistas around Mordor, they would still have to land and pray that no one is waiting for them.

1) the eagles saved gandalf in the hobbit and from the tower. and showed up to help distract sauron in the return of the king. and also saved bilbo with all the dwarfs when they got attacked.
2) they just needed to fly fucking high above the clouds.
3) yeah but the trip to the volanco would be finished so quickly that they wouldnt have been corrupted at all....like 3 - 5 days max.
4) as i said fly high above the clouds drop in fucking close to the vulcano. finish the job.
5...i think it doesnt matter where you drop it as long as you get it right.

and lastly. its just a theory i have read somewhere that gandalf was saying fly there. and not get out of here...yeah also get out of there...but use eagles to get there....

Also, if they needed a rider, they wouldn't be able to fly that high without being seen. Remember, in the hobbit they say they won't take them very far because of the archers Remember, the archers in question are untrained shepherds with simple bows, not elite orc archers, or, god forbid, a troll-manned balista , which implies that they can't fly so high, at least not when carrying people.

No, it has to be at the crack of doom. Also, you can't take someone that high, also no matter how high you go, the eye of Sauron would notice the eagles POWER too. Also, the thing with the eagles helping Gandalf at the tower is BECAUSE Saruman was interfering directly with middle earth's destiny, so that interaction was strictly between servants of the valar, no middle earth stuff about. The help they give in the hobbit also does little to shape the destiny of middle earth, same as saving the hobbits.
