| Milton Friedman supported having some regulation. He recognized that government has its role, though one that is far smaller than what we consider normal today. I agree there should be some limits. You can see this being a problem when you look at how big corporations are just buying out all the competition with the cheap credit the fed is providing. Look at facebook and google doing this, but also AB Inbev, the biggest beer producer in the world. I've also seen this recently where i live, there was this original concept of a washing salon where you could have a drink and it worked really well. But then pizza hut bought the concept. It makes me sad tbh, but who can refuse the millions they offer when you're only just starting and you can't be sure your business will survive. #93 -
woolfy (09/05/2015) [-] Give me your definition of liberal. I try to avoid it because it's a confusing and contradictory term. But yes studies have shown that economists tend to be more selfish. Maybe it's because a lot of economics jobs pay well, so the study tends to attract greedy people. Or maybe the analytical side attracts data nerds, who get so into it that they stop seeing real people behind their precious numbers. #97 -
woolfy (09/05/2015) [-] How does it mean left of center though? If you're liberal it means you think freedom is important. This is associated with left of center people, but also describes a lot of right wing ideologies. What's really confusing is that we use the same word to describe personal freedom (for instance lax drug laws) and corporate freedom (low regulations). So really liberal could describe views pretty much anywhere on the political spectrum. I'm aware, that's why I'm not an all-out free market person. but keep in mind that in general, economists do mostly agree that free trade is a good thing. They may have their own views on welfare and such, but mostly free trade can still exist with some welfare. in your example of market control, imagine how it would turn out if we opened up international trade and allowed the world to compete. incidentally, global trade liberalization has nearly universal support among economists, that's one of the things they do agree on #94 -
woolfy (09/05/2015) [-] Yes, free trade is usually a good thing for both participants. Basics of economics, you make what you're good at, someone else makes what they're good at. You trade, everyone wins. It's why 'self sufficiency' projects are always a disaster. However there are cases where tariffs on imports have helped countries grow their industries and invest in new technologies. Protectionism helped a lot of countries develop during the beginnings of globalization, roughly between the US civil war and WW1. Tariffs is a tricky on though because these days a lot of lobbyists vouching for it simply want bigger profits for their companies. | ||

But also, it is more likely that even those people could be representing the interest of other hidden groups who, in that way, being secret, can manipulate both sides of a game at the same time. I mean, there's power in acting from the shadows. If someone exposes the visible part of your organization you can fake a reestructuring, putting a friendlier face on the front and use that to your advantage. I'd do it. In other words, I've spent my life surrounded by hundreds of people I could potentially befriend. I've seen people leave their groups and find others, but I imagine it would be much harder in the adult world. I actually went through a similar thing a few years ago. I was struggling to connect with my group of friends, and considered leaving. I didn't in the end, but I did invest energy into meeting new people. Nowadays I'm only properly friends with a few of them, but I feel that these are more solid than ever. I'm starting college in a few weeks, and hope that it will give me a chance to branch out a bit. So do what you feel is right I guess. Even if you're only close with a few people, these friendships are worth hanging on to. You don't have to be a mad social animal, but too much isolation tends to make people unhappy. You know what's best for yourself much better than I do, so do whatever your gut tells you is right. There's one thing, when the circumference is what is small and that can be made bigger by stretching (also had that but stretching was enough) and a Dr. actually said that is more common for those that learn to masturbate in an improper way and not by pulling the skin up and down (like humping something or just rubbing the skin on the head of the Dickens). That sounds like what you describe. Another thing is when the frenulum (piec eof skin that connects the foreskin with the head of the penis) is short and so... like, if when you're not hard you pull it back, your dick bends (inb4 dick bending, lol). And both can be cured without circumsicion. The second one, you can cure it with circumcision but there's also a procedure in which they cut that frenulum thing in a specific way that allows it to elongate and thus it no longer traps your dick. (Fun Fact: some people also encounter that problem with the tongue frenulum, the one under your tongue). #238 -

If you're still interested in the story of my life and not bored, hehe, I got crazy jealous when a friend who I liked and "only saw me as a friend" kissed a friend of mine one night i couldn't even go to dance cus i was sick and, even tho she told him that he didn't want to risk their friendship, she told me (she fucking told me the story) that she had felt very attracted to him and wanted to kiss him. I ws feelin, before that, that my friends didn't appreciate me because they didn't call me to hang out, I had to go after them and I just didn't feel as a part of the "group" even tho I'd been there since the start. So, after that, I separated from them, from my gf (the girl I told you about whom, I know realize it's ok because what held us together is that nobody else liked me and I felt like doing her some good since she liked me but she wasn't my WOW which is what I'd like my gf to be) and pretty much everyone because I wanted to face being alone to see if i could heal my dependance on others and to find value from my own appreciation. #241 -

There were some terribly awkward minutes until she started wondering if it was her fault and getting really upset over it. We tried again a few weeks later and it went much better. Hold up though, that problem you had with your frenulum, is that a thing? I need to make sure I'm pulled back before getting it up because pulling it down over my head while erect is really painful. You're saying there are procedures for that?! I've considered getting circumcised, but it wouldn't be a good idea for me due to an injury I received as a child. Don't worry, it's not nearly as bad as it sounds. Actually it sounds like we might have different problems, but I' still curious. #239 -

They can manipulate the market to their will and can get the government to do pretty much anything through lobbying. And sometimes they just openly band together to form monopolies on markets and rip everyone off. With all that, why would they need a secret group? Which isn't to say it's impossible of course. Gotta keep an open mind. #65 -

| since i have personally worked at a support job in IT i would say its a good life experience to have, the shit jobs at mcdonalds and stuff like that is considered "extra" here in norway you go to school, thats what everyone expects of you if you want enough money on the side to have your own apartment and some spare change then get a shitty job at mcdonalds its extra money for your own spending, not considered something you end up with after college or high school or whatever equivalent we have the thought process in america is somewhere along the lines of "shit, i need a job, better apply at something easy where i can get paid" in norway, its more along the lines of "man, i would love to go out and party more often or afford my own place earlier so i dont have to mooch of my parents, i should get a job outside school so i can afford those things!" and thats where shit like mcdonalds and supermarket cashier comes in to answer > Or is it simply taken for granted that the primary job of those in charge of the country is to help the worst off in society? we have tons of "programs" and systems to help out people that need it, there is absolutely no reason for beggars or homeless people to exist here in norway do you have a drug issue? free state sponsored rehab and living quarters with a state sponsored job to get you into the job market again homeless for whatever reason? emergency sheltering (about the same standard as a 4 star hotel) until you get your economy back up so you can get somewhere to live so yes. we have set it up so that everyone should be able to live peacefully and have a happy life here. A system from one country will not necessarily work in another. The Scandinavian countries have had generation after generation of a society built around trust and freedom. They still have a very free market compared to most of the world including the United States. Their Socialist policy is still fairly new, and they're able to have such policy because everybody is close-knit and hold each other accountable. A majority of people give what they take. In the US this hasn't been the case. If Scandinavian countries used the US system, it would probably work about as well because of the society that those countries have. Aside from that, College is certainly not a necessary experience. More often than it should be it's actually a waste of time and money. Students go there to socialize rather than to learn a trade. They major in useless degrees and accrue mountains of debt and wind up working a dead end job to pay it off when they would have been much better off finding a job and learning practical skills or going to a vocational school where they'd be able to work practically with their passion in an educational environment. Is detracting resources from the economy in order to subsidize higher education really the right choice? It's not a zero sum game. There are consequences to forcefully taking money out of the economy, no matter how small an amount it is. The benefits would have to outweigh the costs, and that's a hard case to make given the current situation with higher education, even in the Scandinavian countries. I mean 85% of Swedish students still graduate with crippling amounts of debt vs 50% in the US at a higher debt-to-income ratio than those in the US. #200 -
woolfy (08/28/2015) [-] Correct me if I'm wrong, but when I said "it's something everyone should do" did you think I was referring to going to college? What I meant was working low pay jobs, since that's what an increasingly large portion of society is getting by on. I agree that college isn't a necessary experience. In fact I think that most education systems don't do enough to provide non-academic options. I know Germany and Poland have practical courses where you can learn to be a plumber or an electrician. My own school system is far too focused with getting everyone into college. I have much more respect for people who knew school wouldn't take them anyway and dropped out than for those who couldn't make a proper life choice and ended up in bullshit second rate courses. If you don't mind me asking, which route did you take? we have the same setup, there is mainly 2 different things you can do when you finish tenth grade, you can either go for a more work oriented school period (1-3 years depending) or you can go for higher education where you learn basics for everything like physics, math, norwegian, proper writing etc (3++) Ah, I guess I misunderstood.
