And it's called Yule, and it was always celebrated by us Europeans, especially the Nordics. This was on the 21st of December, the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year. We did this long before Christmas was a thing. I mean hundreds of years.

Then the catholic church decided that the pagans weren't going to have the biggest holiday of the year, so very smoothly, they merged christmas with the winter solstice. It's the biggest cover-up in history, it's even been proven that Jesus was born in summertime.

The pine-tree tradition is pagan as well. It started with just a branch of pine on the dinner table, but.. trees are prettier.
