But yeah, you're right that "less than x units" is grammatically but so is "fewer than x units", according to Wikipedia.

Atcually, both are acceptable. Normally we'd use 'fewer' with counting nounts, and 'less' with uncount nouns. Since week is an counting noun, it is acceptable to use 'fewer'.
However, since it denotes time, 'less' is also acceptable.
