5. Pretty much. Professional English longbowmen still prided themselves on accuracy on an individual basis, just not during warfare.
6. The English also tended to be training their children from birth to at least be able to fire a smaller poundage bow if necessary, and this could be what is meant, but I agree it's not exactly accurate.

10. I guess. I try to avoid arguing the motivations for the Crusades, since it gets people in a tizzy.
11. He mentioned the sound, smoke is a good addition, but that was only if you had the correct kind of powder, and it could choke your men if the wind was bad. Correct on ammunition, but the issue of fire rate was a thing, this is why the rotating rank became popular when rifles became a mainstay. Your points more apply a while after guns had been worked on and improved, not when they were new to Europe.

11: the powder originally used, black powder, produced more smoke than the more advanced types that showed up later, it wasn't a case of the correct powder, it was a case that people didn't know how to get rid of the smoke.

Given that the roman empire lasted until 1453 it's pretty early roman history. Plus the founding of Rome was not the start of the roman empire, the roman empire was established in 27 bc at which point they had plenty of equities cavalry

Meh I've run into wolves in the woods and they tend to be pussies. Just boop them on the snout and they all run in fear
#10 - iderpedintofj (01/03/2016) [-]
It's not a single wolf you have to worry about. A pack of about 4-5 or so will run down and tire out the fittest human until he's got nothing left then snack on them at their leisure.
#29 - woodoo (01/03/2016) [-]
>pack of 4-5
Fun fact: during starvation periods, the only time in history were wolves are likely to hurt a human who isn't actively fucking with them, wolf packs tend to unite in search of food. A regular wolf pack will leave a human alone, unless you are actively trying to hurt them, but a starvation pack, which can number up to 400 individuals, will actively hunt humans if nothing else presents itself.
#13 - daemonicdemeanor (01/03/2016) [-]
**daemonicdemeanor used "*roll picture*"**
**daemonicdemeanor rolled image**The fittest human can definitely run farther than wolves. I think they'd just kill him quickly if that's what they were gonna do. I was hunting fucking coyotes one time, and out of nowhere they surrounded the truck. Coyotes aren't any bigger than a border collie and I was scared shitless. Also, I don't think they form packs, they just gang up when it's convenient. A pack of wolves would be horrifying.

I'm not saying I can outrun wolves. I'm just saying humans have the best endurance of all animals, just not the best speed.
#15 - iderpedintofj (01/03/2016) [-]
And wait, I just saw that you may have hinted that wolves don't form packs.

Seriously go watch Discovery Channel or something.
#16 - daemonicdemeanor (01/03/2016) [-]
**daemonicdemeanor used "*roll picture*"**
**daemonicdemeanor rolled image**I was talking about coyotes. Also read the spoiler. Wolves and prehistoric humans hunted in very similar ways, which is a big reason we domesticated them. I admittedly don't know shit about coyotes, but I see solitary ones all the time, or groups of 3 at the most. I was just saying that if wolves tried to take down a marathon runner the way they take down an elk or something, they would probably give up first. Of course, if hungry wolves are actually after you, you're pretty much fucked unless you have a gun with ammo to spare.
#17 - iderpedintofj (01/03/2016) [-]
The whole point was we were talking about wolves, not coyotes. You decided to pop that up out of nowhere.

A marathon runner doesn't stand a chance against wolves. They're simply faster over short distance, and all it takes is a nip or two on the leg and there goes the only benefit the runner had.

Also not everyone is blessed by John Moses Motherfucking Browning or his kinfolk to carry mobile artillery.
User avatar
#18 - daemonicdemeanor (01/03/2016) [-]
That's pretty much what I was trying to say. I only brought up coyotes because they're smaller and even then they would have killed me if I didn't have a gun or truck at the time.
#19 - iderpedintofj (01/03/2016) [-]

#14 - iderpedintofj (01/03/2016) [-]
Can run further, but not faster. Over a long, long distance, the human wins, but at a sprint, you're fucked, and I guarantee that you'll be at a sprint trying to get away from a pack of wolves. So will they. And they will win.

Dogs are the only species that can sorta keep up with us over distance, which is why they were domesticated and make good companions. My dog (when she was much younger) liked to play 'catch me if you can'. I won, but it took 6 miles.
#6 - woodoo (01/03/2016) [-]
Yeah, after we have spent 30000 years at the top of the food chain. (but yeah, wolves are pussies, most predators are, but that doesn't stop the fact that they've been feared in literally every primitive society that knew about them)
