Building cool shit is the E in STEM

Engineering isn't building cool shit. It's figuring out how to build shit that does exactly what it's meant to do. Said shit being cool is preferable but uncommon. My point is that their job is to bust myths with science, or at least understand and be clear about how scientific their process is. They try to do it, but they don't know how to build good experiments, so they build average to shitty experiments with a lot of spectacle, and act like they're the final word. They're likable people who are good at what they do, but what they do isn't their job.

Everywhere else, I think is the key term.
