Well actually we aren't THAT different.. they can feel pain even thou they are rats. And I would not think that was painless for the little creature :/ I'm not well studied in rats anatomy even if I did own three sisters a while back. Holding the neck skin with your fingers are okay (if your rat agrees with it that is) but using a clamp like that I would never do.

Don't mama rats grab their children by their necks just like dogs do? Dogs can hang by the skin on their necks as well. (as long as it's gentle and not taped to a fucking airconditioner but you get the point.)

I think so yes. Cats, bunnies and quite a large group of other creatures do this as well :)

Also when animals (humans included) are babies their skin is different from the adults, usually softer and a bit more elastic if I'm not totally wrong. My point being that a metal clamp being unnecessary when it is nicer to the rat if you just pinch it lightly with your finger instead of using a hard and not very animal friendly metal clamp. :P
