Only watch the first. You are missing out on nothing.

There's nothing wrong with season 2, just because it wasn't a carbon copy of season 1 doesn't mean it was bad.

Guess why we didn't got another season.
#265 - empirennn (07/21/2016) [-]
:/ Well no, the reason it was terrible was how it handled the connection to season 1, not because it wasn't the exact same as season 1.

First , it aired before the OVA which explained the premise. (also some people who died came back to life in that OVA for some reason, but that's neither here nor there).
Second, the main protagonist loses his powers in order to make a loli with tons of loli problems the protagonist.
Third, it killed off important characters at the start for basically no reason.
Fourth, Unlike the first season where Yin was a mystery, now she's a test subject in a "secure location" for 90% of the show.
Fifth: Almost 90% of the cast from season 1 gets no role or a small cameo. (which is a good number of characters)
Sixth: The whole plot was basically retarded and forcing the loli content.
Seventh: Oh god the "magical girl powerup" scenes. She draws a giant rifle from her chest, which is quite possibly the stupidest power to exist in DTB. It's like saying "yeah well, my power is GUN". Her price is also not creative.
Eighth: Hei started drinking. For zero reason.
Ninth: It still left a lot of plot points unanswered and didn't have a good villain.

Finally: Tenth: Half the show didn't need to happen. Nothing involving the loli was needed for this story to be told. There could have easily been other story elements instead of "let's backstory the loli, let's train the loli, oh no the loli's friend, etc. etc. etc.".

1, I watched the ova after watching S2 first, and I didn't feel anything different to be honest, I understood that Hei wanted to find Yin pretty early on S2.
2, I don't know why is this an issue? I think you need to understand that Hei can do electric shit but thats about it, he could do all that shit on S2 with a fucking retard loli on his side without his powers, his physical abilities are the reason he's still alive and not his electric chinese batman powers, and I think that made him more awesome, in a way.
3, What about it? Is it because April died? Shit idk but it feels like this is the lesser complaint.
4, I kinda agree.
5, Shit idk instead of Japan is Russia, don't really care about s1 characters infact Misaki appeared in an episode for no literaly fucking reason and made no sense , I cared more about the Gates but that didn't fucking got explained, but oh yeah lets complain about the goddamn chinese drunktard because surely thats the problem.
6, What? Have we watched the same anime? Darker than Black 1 wasn't only about a guy doing cool shit with electric things, it was about how life was with these "contractors", a normal life fucked up with... these things and the gates, I don't know but the plot clearly revolves around how being suddenly a contractor (going into puberty too) and suddenly losing the powers of it and you start thinking about it more when you realize who Souo is. It was just a stupid town on the middle of fucking snow and now its all fucked up, but instead of the good ol 2 episodes of DTB it was 12 for some reason, but hey I enjoyed it.
7, I don't know why those scenes bothers you, I also, while its a weird ass power it makes more sense if you understood the story about her and his brother, also the prices of contractors are almost retarded in a way, which I think adds flavour.
8, Hei's "price" as a contractor is eating, and possibly? drinking or idk but I feel like after Hei lost his powers he didn't really need to do those, is because he still drinks that makes you realize more how fucking fast he's losing his head.
9, You're fucking right, fucking thing needed another season but we didn't got another, and to this day still don't know why there's not, the ovas can only explain so much...

10, Half of DTB s1 didn't really need to happen either, but as I said again, the reality of S1 is that the things that really explained what was happening and what was going on were explained very carefully and slowly in the pace of all episodes while going all blown out on the lasts, explaining more about the gates and why and that happens, but the majority again, was about more whats happening on the "side".

I also find DTB S2 still as good as DTB S1, specially the animation holds up very well, also the music is fucking great in both seasons and ova and yadda yadda, but to say that its just plain bad...
I think it shoulda have expanded more on about the starts and that goddamn sky (also that "cloned planet" wtf is that) but sadly none of that happened and feel like never will.

1. The issue is that in DTB-season 1, Yin's circumstance at the end is completely different than her part in season 2.
2. Why is it an issue? Because he's the protagonist in a series about superpowers. In fact one of the main points of DTB season 1 is how and why hei has the powers that he does.(which isn't really addressed in s2).
3. It was not needed and simply existed to say "hey april's dead".
5. Yeah, go figure that you don't. (probably the biggest reason you don't see any problems).
6. Right, but darker than black season 1 didn't have a contrived plot to shift the entire focus of a season on a loli for several episodes.

7. Because i'm watching DTB, not sailor moon.(also consistency).

8. His price isn't eating or drinking. He started drinking for literally no reason. Just "woops now hei is an alchoholic".

9. The manga, which is poorly written, is a lot better than S2 of DTB.

10. Right but S1 of DTB was episodic while S2 wasn't. That's the defining difference.

Saying "the animation holds up" is kind of a worthless statement. It's the same studio, of course it's going to be the same animation.

S2 was a contrived plot to pander to the trend of loli. That's all it was.

This is going nowhere then, you and I have different views, I agree with some things, it could have been better but I feel like you just think of Suou only, like how the fuck is it pandering the trend of loli? She's not "loli" enough by japanese shitty anime standards, also I feel like you're forgetting the other doll kid and shit.

By saying "the animation holds up" I mean it in a way that other animes do and give you a budget-feel of animation on the next season or put effort in only the first episode. BONES, they do an amazing job, or fuck up completely in a span of 2 episodes. Anyway, you're making me want to rewatch the series.

How the fuck is it pandering?
>Went from grown man to loli
>Loli has magical girl transformation sequence.
>90% of the time she's involved its something that would never have happened in DTB.
("Oh my highschool friend!" "I'm a girl so blush", etc. etc.)

You don't think about why the character is what they are. You're not looking at it from a designers perspective.

#444 - benaz (07/22/2016) [-]
Lolis don't act like that, and trust me I've seen some shit. (She's also 13, way past the eeeeeeeeeh loli age)
Souo has some problems with how she depicts her feelings because she's young, Mao says something about it too If I remember right, plus her friend is now a fucking killer machine without feelings and uses cockroaches to do her job. Also some people think of her as his brother so that adds something.
She's also different from others, as a contractor she can somehow have facial features depicting her feelings, Hei did this... but not anymore, this is interestsing, because he doesn't have his powers anymore, yet he's a drunken that doens't really look like feeling anything. And he did show those in DTB1, even though he was a contractor. In the end, its probably because who is the real contractor is his brother(aka her, but the original and in boy form), and thats why she can pull out that fucking gun out of the meteor part collar thing.

Whatever, I think they are supposed to mean something like how the protagonists are parallel or something else but they aren't idk im out to do some shit
