My actual argument for this is it was created for kids like damn near 60 years ago some of them, and now those kids are grown ups with more grown up taste. Also, there are simply more mature kids these days do the comics are also changing to accommodate that.
#24 - anon (12/26/2015) [-]
I think that there's always been mature children. It's more that now, there are more immature parents. All able to communicate via facebook.

>>#1, originally they were meant for adults. superman killed, batman wielded guns, shit was dark. this age is called "the golden age" of comic books. 1938-1950 (rough estimate)

then they started losing popularity, causing several high rollers like dc and archie to come together and create the "comic book authority" basically it was done so they could kill their competition and specialize in selling comic books to kids. the authority then went on to popularize superman as the boy scout we all know and love, and made batman more happy and go lucky. this age was called "the silver age" 1950-1975

the comic book authority however, was broken when stan lee decided to make a comic book issue where spiderman fought drug trafficking(drugs were banned from appearing in comic books) this lead to the rules becoming more lax, which then allowed people like alan moore, grant morrison and miller to create more dark and edgy works(dark knight rises, the killing joke, watchmen, etc) the final nail to comic book authority and silver age is considered to have been struck in the infamous "doomsday" story arc, where superman is "killed off" by doomsday, which was kept as a sign that superman had lost to the coming age of darker and edgier works. this age is the age we are living in and it is called the "bronze age of comic books"

have you even read any superman comics?

Just Injustice ones
User avatar
#52 - angelious (12/26/2015) [-]
well...in that case i would recommend reading superman comics that dont completely butcher his whole character?
User avatar
#53 - xxjmacxx (12/26/2015) [-]
If you are referring to Injustice, it's the only version of superman I like. Everything I've seen (which I know isn't reading) is trash. I just hate his whole background and powers. It's not his attitude or anything.
User avatar
#54 - angelious (12/26/2015) [-]
well if injustice is the best version of superman you have seen then i would say you have been reading some really low quality comics...and while i am used to people hating supermans powers because they think he is too op(another misinformation that would be fixed by reading more comics...) the hating on his background is new to me? why?
User avatar
#55 - xxjmacxx (12/26/2015) [-]
I like the injustice version because it makes him a villain, which he makes the perfect villain. His homeworld giving him powers makes no sense and I get he's still technically killable it's just retarded.

in a world where one dude gained the power to go super fast by being struck by lightning near a few bottle of liquids and another became able to fight h2h with kryptonians just because he trained hard you find supermans powers to make no sense? ...well to each his own. i wont try force you to like something you dont want to like.

well...kinda. you could see bronze age as going back towards the golden age formula while trying to carry over what was great about silver age of comic books. the stories these days however, have the major difference in it that they take the marvel approach to things and are trying to focus more on the characters as personalities as rather than superheroes.
User avatar
#45 - onerace (12/26/2015) [-]
But if they do it right they may have an age way better than the golden age. Comics may become something mainstream again not in a bad way tho.

bronze age is pretty much my favourite era...well early bronze. 90s to 2010 ish... 80s had some great ones but most of my favourites comes from the time line given. they pretty much created all the superheroes that i love in the form we see them nowadays.

I haven't been in to comics that much but I do like them. So care to give a few names.

#48 - angelious (12/26/2015) [-]
anything from the big trio. grant morrison alan moore and neil gaiman(the three of these are actually so great that their comic books are attributed to being a major factor in why marvel had to file bankrupt in the 21 century)

but specific names... all star superman is pretty much the greatest superman comics. book of magic, sandman series, killing joke, hush, arkham serious house on serious earth, whatever happened to the man of tomorrow, doomsday, superman year one, invincible, specter(early 80s to 90s has the most baller art style you will ever see) john constantine (the original series) lucifer and swamp thing. those are pretty much must reads dc comics. as for marvel....well im not too well versed in marvel hits... you would have to turn to my nemesis, comicexplain for that. he is the one who knows more about marvel from the two of us.
