'Crisps' is because the Pringles are actually made out of dried, pringle-shaped mashed potatoes instead of actual potato slices.

In Europe they call them crisps not chips.
#28 - samoaspider (04/04/2013) [-]
No, they call them crisps only in the UK. (Baltic countries frown upon your statement)

Ah, my mistake.
#16 - SirSheepy (04/04/2013) [-]
what the fuck are you talking about?
#23 - beldum (04/04/2013) [-]
they're not legally able to call it a chip because of the ratio of the potato to the flour and other ingredients
User avatar #24 - SirSheepy (04/04/2013) [-]
i'm pretty sure that isn't why they're called crisps
#25 - beldum (04/04/2013) [-]
here's part of the article on BBC news
User avatar #26 - SirSheepy (04/04/2013) [-]
it looked like he was saying that since it doesn't have enough potato in it that its a crisp not a chip.
User avatar #27 - beldum (04/04/2013) [-]
uhh yeah... that was my original point
User avatar #31 - SirSheepy (04/04/2013) [-]
but that's not right. the article you posted stated that they can't be called crisps because of their lack of potato. not that it was called a crisp because of their lack of potato, which was, as I'm sure you will remember, your "original point"
#33 - beldum (04/04/2013) [-]
ohh. it's because the article came from BBC, a brit company
crisp means chips in the UK
so they mean they cant be potato chips (in the US) but they cant also be potato crisps (in the UK)
i picked this article because it was the first one that showed up and im to lazy to pick other ones
