Don't get me wrong, she is a good author. Her characterization is well done, but she just wasn't experienced enough as a writer for such a large project.

There are many authors who have written longer more intricate works who do not present as many plot holes or broken logic in their series as JKR does in one book.

That being said, she is a great author, and the series' popularity, in spite of its myriad flaws, is proof positive of this.

They're not gonna get nukes. Those things cost money, something that it's hard to imagine terrorists having. Even if they did have the cash to make even one, they would need some very specific ingredients, and as soon as the government hears of suspected terrorists buying up uranium, it'll take about a minute to shove a Tomahawk cruise missile right where the sun don't shine. The only people we need to worry about having nukes is North Korea, and even then the risk of them actually launching them is negligible.
