Catholics are okay....

They target highly publicized funerals in order to get attention and incite anger, but they are a church - a church founded and attended mostly by one family, but still a church. They literally believe the hateful bullshit they spout, and they believe it on religious grounds. So many of them are lawyers because they need to know the law in order to avoid being arrested or censored or whatever.
I don't see what this has to do with a "bias" toward Christianity. You don't actually think they get away with this because they're Christian, do you? Virtually no one agrees with them or has any sympathy for them.

There is no way anyone can misread the bible that much. I know how fucked up and backwards fundamentalists can be when they allow their own hate to influence their take on the book. (my moms entire side of the family is just that) But even these guys are farfetched to a point where they cannot possibly be who they say they are. However, these guys are obviously...very obviously in this for business and getting under peoples skins. Thus the reason they are openly talkative both in person, on camera and especially on any public media. Look at the website, merchandise, audio and video...all organized, worded and arranged perfectly to send one message..."challenge us, I dare you." They are a terrorist group who use their "beliefs" as a mask and safe house. I'm not challenging nor discriminating beliefs...I have my own and openly accept all of them, regardless of what it is...but the U.S. is a Christian country as far as numbers and media are concerned. most of the country relentlessly attack those of muslim beliefs, yet take their time with the harsh and violent actions of extremist christians filling their children with hate, bigotry and lies. I say this from experience and not hate.

That's why there's been a petition going around the internet to get them legally recognized as a hate group, so they lose their tax-exemption.

Yeah, that's not going to work. Just because we disagree with their religion, doesn't invalidate it. The next step would be to say "The Catholic Church is a hate group, because I'm pro-choice, and they're pro-life!"

I've heard that argument before, but Catholics aren't saying to pro-choice people "God hates you!" and then turn around to their government and say "Give me money!" Even the Jewish-Palestinian arguments aren't like that.

Some Catholics are. People do protest outside of abortion clinics. They have a right to. The WBC has the right to say whatever they want as well. Part of me is glad they exist, because they're living proof of the existence of freedom of speech in the US.

Also, the key word there is "some." WBC as a whole does this kind of thing, and they tell their followers to picket funerals and the like, where I doubt Catholicism teaches people to to protest abortion clinics.

If WBC wants to express their freedom of speech, fine, let them. I may not like them, but they have the right to do so. They should not, however, be allowed to not pay taxes when what they're spreading isn't actually religion.

I guess that depends on your definition of religion. The Supreme Court has a very broad definition of religion however.
