you must not watch enough fights then, yes there are some boring ones but you're going to get that with anything. There are plenty of knockouts and good fights you just have to know whats going on in order to be entertained by it, it would be like watching a football game with no knowledge of football. There would be some big plays and hits every once in a while but for the most part you'd have no clue on whats going on. As someone who has watched MMA for years and trained in it for a couple as well it is incredibly entertaining for me because I know what people are doing when they get taken down and there's a ground fight. It's all based off of knowledge.
User avatar #11 - whatugawkinat (07/29/2014) [-]
I've watched MMA on TV as well as in person, I know the rules and methods to the madness and in no way meant to come off as a pointless assface...I Just don't like the sport from a spectators point of view. Sports are always more entertaining when you yourself participate or closely relate....but there's a lot missing that the average person expects to see.
User avatar #12 - fergij (07/29/2014) [-]
oh no worries I didn't think you were being a pointless assface haha I was just saying what I believe makes it possibly boring for some people. It is really interesting to me because with the high level fighters as those in the UFC, if they make any mistake they could lose because of it. That is what I like about it is seeing how well they can keep it together. Also since I know a fair amount about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu it is very interested for me to see people incorporate that with punching someone in the face. Yes there are definitely boring fights but for me those don't tend to happen as much as the exciting ones. Everyone is entitled to feel how they want to about it though. I know the rules of soccer and know whats going on during a game but I still think its a terribly boring sport while there are definitely many people that disagree there haha
User avatar #13 - whatugawkinat (07/29/2014) [-]
I don't know why, but for me, the biggest difference is in person vs TV. I can watch tennis in person and have a blast....but I cannot watch 5 seconds of it on the TV. Same with fights, in person, I'm paying attention to the strategy and mindset of the fight and get sucked into it, however on TV, such as UFC, my attention span is gone and those fights lack the second to second action required to hold my attention haha. Fights are GREAT in person, given you accept the fact that it is a game as well as a fight...but outside of that, we all, deep down want to see people go all out without reserving their energy or stalling for the last bit of a round. Just a short, sweet and bloody fight.
User avatar #14 - fergij (07/29/2014) [-]
I agree I think pretty much any sport is way better in person just because of the atmosphere. I guess for me, being an aspiring fighter, I love to see the strategy that goes in to it all.
User avatar #15 - whatugawkinat (07/29/2014) [-]
I guess we have common ground there. I play guitar, was in a band for over 2 years and my mindset for concerts in completely different from the average person. I knew the ins and outs of getting set up, tuning, dealing with equipment failure, hand cramps and complete memory loss of the bands main track, all with countless people staring at you...expecting you to be flawless. Out of the countless shows I've seen, I go for the performance, I watch each musician to see and learn things the average person doesn't notice. It's more thrilling for me to enjoy the bands chemistry, technical skill and overall performance than to actually listen to the music. I guess the same goes for anything really. Fighting and sports for the athlete is far more in depth and entertaining than to the ones simply spectating.
User avatar #16 - fergij (07/29/2014) [-]
I'm glad someone else understands how difficult it is to put on a live show haha I was in a band in highschool and only did about 10 shows but have played a lot of open mics by myself and it is difficult to be perfect. The thing I've noticed though is most people don't notice when you mess up because most people don't have that much of an understanding of it.
User avatar #17 - whatugawkinat (07/29/2014) [-]
It's even better in a band with two guitarists. If I messed up, It went unnoticed. But yeah, anything from electrical issues, PA problems, strings breaking, EQ settings and just getting the equipment to the venue in itself are a few of the problems with live shows. Seeing someone perform with little set up time, no issues and great sound says a lot about them. I get a kick out of watching a band have fun, mess with the crowd and pull of some interesting gimmicks.
User avatar #18 - fergij (07/29/2014) [-]

They're both gassed by the end of the video. Also, watch more UFC, you clearly never do.
User avatar #7 - fergij (07/28/2014) [-]
the guy with the mustache is don frye, a former ufc champion. The reason people don't fight like that today is because if they did most people would have 10 fight careers before having to retire, also todays fighters have a much more complete fighting game so all areas of fights happen. You can't go out and swing wildly all fight today because you will get taken down and lose.
User avatar #9 - whatugawkinat (07/28/2014) [-]
Exactly. That's just my opinion though, but I think sport "fighting" is nothing more than lousy entertainment. Fighting is an all out brawl with the purpose of ending the fight ASAP. Sport fighting is timed, set in rounds and watered down with rules. Sure, you see some action every so often, but it's more strategy and reserving energy than anything. I don't hate UFC or anything of the sort, I just don't see it as being the ultimate fight people make it out to be. It has the hits, kicks, KO's and submissions we all want to see...but what we expect is rarely the reality due to the layout of the sport in general. It's like what NASCAR is to racing, there is some intensity on occasion, but due to the rules/layout of the particular style of racing...it's more about strategy than it is all out bump and grind racing excitement.

Since we have a concealed carry law here, it's up to individual shops/stores if they want to allow it in their store. It's not about keeping out robbers, it's a fun way to say that this particular store doesn't allow weaponry in.
User avatar #3 - whatugawkinat (07/27/2014) [-]
But why? Why would any store publicly state they do not allow weaponry? I understand that some people don't support the ownership/carrying of firearms, and yeah, the sign is funny, but that's not something a store owner should be placing in their window.
