Yes, we COULD ignore it, but that means they win. Considering some of the shit they're putting out there... leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=201320140SB967 I'd rather stand up and tell them "no."

the only two things that didn't make sense in this entire bill was 'consent can be revoked at any time and 'victim centric' policies, which seems to already exist in america anyway.
User avatar #60 - kousei (11/27/2014) [-]
How about the fact that it reiterates already accepted standards even the stupid ones and leaves a big ol' blank for what constitutes "affirmative consent" and how often it must be received. It also does not state any requirement for the verbalization of cancelled consent. Oh and that one night your partner was barely willing to have sex with you? It is now a rape charge awaiting you for the day you piss them off. Thank you but you won't be disposing of rape by EXPANDING THE DEFINITION!
User avatar #61 - silentark (11/27/2014) [-]
*shrugs* get a good lawyer and the blank spots mean nothing, if they haven't set what constitutes consent or withdrawal of such consent then that's up for dispute.

And that's why we need people showing their boobs around.
Because the current state of things needs to be fixed, and you WILL NOT fix it by telling people to dress up and carry self-defense tools.
You solve it by getting people used to boobies, the same way they're used to mantits.
We need people who go around shirtless, so people can become indifferent to seing female nudity as purely sexual.
User avatar #463 - chieflongnap (04/10/2014) [-]
Rape has been stated by criminologists to be about the power. It's mostly never about the sexual satisfaction. This is why people who dress conservatively, older people, or people who are mostly perceived as ugly can also be raped at some point in time.

A rapist usually chooses a victim that they perceive as vulnerable or weak. For some rapists this might be the woman who is dressed really provocatively because she may seem that much more feminine and therefore they might think that she is weak and vulnerable. Are the women asking for it? Of course not. But, dressing a certain way will grab the attention of certain people, making it that much more likely that it could happen.

This same logic applies to the monopoly man picture. If I dressed in a thousand dollar suit, worse a rolex, and just gave off the general impression that I have a lot of money and expensive valuables, I would garner a lot of attention from people who are looking for a target to rob.

As anonymoose is saying, rape shouldn't be forgotten about and I believe women should always be careful about what they wear while travelling alone, as well as just being prepared in general, because it's not possible to just predict who will be raped and when.

Once again, I'm not saying women are to blame. The rapist is always to blame. However, I do agree that women unfortunately can not just wear whatever they want without gaining attention from people, both good and bad.
User avatar #471 - smokingman (04/10/2014) [-]
I fyou read my posts (lots of them on this page), you'll see that I repeatedly say that what we need to change is the percieved "vulnerability" of attractive attire.

And how do we do that?
By NORMALIZING it.
As I've already said, we've gottent past the victorian sexual standards.
We've gotten past the 50's standards.
People don't see women in pants as vulnerable since a fuckload of years.
They've gotten used to it.

And that's what we should do, get people used to nudity.

Yes, the currents state of things makes so that women have to fend for themselves.
But it doesn't have to stay as it is.
Things change, and we have to make so that they change.

Completely agree with you. This site's full of 12 year olds who don't understand that yet.
User avatar #423 - anonymoose (04/10/2014) [-]
No where in that picture does it say the woman deserves to be raped. Unless you think rich people deserve to be robbed.

It simply says your choice of outfit CAN be partially to blame for being raped.
#454 - Womens Study Major (04/10/2014) [-]
Saying what a woman wears is to blame for rape is saying men are little more than uncontrollable animals who should be kept in cages because they're not human enough to contain their urges.

But I believe experts have been saying for a long time now that rape isn't about sex anyway - it's about power. That's why uglies and old ladies get raped as well. Rapists don't go for sexy chicks, they go for easy targets.
User avatar #455 - anonymoose (04/10/2014) [-]
And slutty looking girls are clearly easier targets.
User avatar #426 - iamwilldabeast (04/10/2014) [-]
Absolutely not dude, what if your Mom wore a low-cut shirt and went out to a bar just for fun, if she gets raped it's kind of her fault? Nah that's bullshit, how about we just don't rape people. Clothing has nothing to do with it.
User avatar #431 - anonymoose (04/10/2014) [-]
Do you think I'll instantly change my mind because you threw the word mum in there?

I'm not saying we should rape, I'm saying we should pretend rape doesn't happen and be cautious about what you wear.
User avatar #446 - mutzaki (04/10/2014) [-]
We should all wear silver jumpsuits. If we choose not to wear them, and get raped, it won't be our own faults, but it will still kinda be.
People should just realize that freedom to dress however they want comes at a prize, and if they don't want to get raped, they should dress the way society tells them to.
User avatar #513 - mutzaki (04/10/2014) [-]
I'm curious if people are thumbing me down because they disagree with my satire or because they think I'm being serious.
