Since you said you're getting a gun license, I assume you're not in the US. What are the laws on guns where you live?

if I can find a range that's long enough, I'd do distance. Otherwise I'm fine with handgun range. Since I've never fired a shot, I think I'll start at 9mm, or get a .22 rifle and use that for practice before going up in caliber

If its your first rifle I would agree that a .22 would be the best way to go. It's easier to learn shooting techniques on a gun with little recoil and cheap ammo when you can find it . Get a Marlin 60 or a Ruger 10/22 and a decent rimfire scope. At the absolute most that should run you $350-400. Spend the rest on ammo.

Its more expensive than both the Marlin 60 and Ruger 10/22 and has a shorter barrel and in my opinion less quality . Also the Henry Repeating Arms Company has no actual association to the original Henry rifles or its inventor. If you really like lever action its a good choice.

If you think that the Marlin and Ruger are better, then I'll get one of those. Also, as for the Ruger, did you mean the 10/22 Carbine? I see there's 7 different models

Ya the Carbine. If you want a Walnut stock you could get the Sporter. I think its like $40 more.

Henry and Marlin are really the big two. Some other companies make them but it starts to get very expensive.

You'll want a larger, higher powered round for hogs. I'm assuming you're looking to carry a handgun so anything in .45ACP, 10mm, .357mag, .44mag, or anything larger.

Our story begins in the small town of Oberndorf am Neckar, Germany, whereupon a sprocket of engineers set out on a most noble quest.
