Mate, i wear a cowboy hat all the time. No boots though. And my cowboy hat says " I go commando, do you? ".. so.. I am basically a fashion crime. It's a good thing i don't care about fashion! Anyways... bring the boots and cowboy hat. Those things are badass. And yea, it's mostly vodka here, though i don't drink that anymore. I've gotten soft. Only beer for me.

Do you know where in Tartu you are staying? If you are staying in Annelinn, then you might be fucked. I've heard bad stuff about that place. Every other place in Tartu should be awesome though.
User avatar #211 - ifuckbabies (05/11/2013) [-]
Well people do say that Estonia has gorgeous girls, so that's all good.
As for drinking... well... i think that's pretty much all we have here.
Tartu has the best public drinking place in Estonia also. There is a park where drinking is legal ( you can drink cider, beer and other things that aren't too strong ), so that's fun times. Of course it's only legal there if you are at least 18 years old. If you ever want to visit other places in Estonia, then you can always contact me also. I can invite you to some pretty decent parties sometimes perhaps. Just watch out who you drink with. Estonians will steal your stuff, and Russians will steal your stuff and stab you. Estonians are too scared to stab you, so that's okay.

Im just going to be in the dorm in Raatuse. I can out drink most people here so it should be good to be with some fellow drinkers : D. Except here we drink whiskey straight I assume its more vodka over there. Last thing, I assume bringing my cowboy hats and boots would be a horrible idea correct?

Red marb is also available here in practically every shop. I personally don't see a big choice in cigarettes, my friends and i prefer philip morris or camels, but marb is nice too sometimes. In the old town of Tallinn there's a tobacco shop which has quite large selection of different cigarettes and rolling tobacco but most shops have limited choice of ciggies. As much as i know russians don't really like americans, estonians seem to be just fine with them. I don't know i haven't really noticed, most common problem in our country is this fight of estonians and russians.

Stay away from Pärnu, Valga, Tallinn, Haapsalu.. well.. just stay away from literally every other town. Watch out when you buy things, because if you don't speak Estonian, you are considered a tourist, and tourists pay more. Unless you speak Russian. That works also. Just.. just try to stay inside, hire people to do your shopping, and cut yourself off from real life. You might be able to stay safe that way. Avoid most Russian people also. The younger ones mostly. Old ones are okay. Easier to run away from them, because of arthritis 'n' shit.

Drinking is a normal everyday thing haha, i think estonia is ranked second in europe by amounts of alcohol consumed. Booze is incredibly cheap (even finns just come to estonia to buy tons of booze) as well as cigarettes. Drugs are another story, weed is super expensive (20 euros per 1 gram) and most of the time you will get ripped off, unless you have a reliable dealer. Most common drug you'll find is probably ecstasy since clubbing is really popular, i think tallinn was even named party capital of europe. Girls are beautiful here, most are cold hearted bitches that only care about partying but you'll definitely find nice ones too. I don't know what else to tell lol. There's also this blog (hurr i know tumblr) about estonia, and most gifs are actually quite accurate estonianmoments.tumblr.com/

I used to live in Tartu until i moved to the US. I used to live on a street named Veeriku, it was a great place to live because you have many things near you. I also had a friend that lived across the street from me, and we were together many times. And then i had to move here. Whenever I go to Estonia, im always very excited to go outside and actually enjoy the nice fresh air and the nature unlike here in Brooklyn.
User avatar #219 - aconitumanthora (05/11/2013) [-]
Tartu is a really small town, so don't expect anything grand. But it's really cozy and you can go everywhere on foot, because the distances are not long.
Foreigners are well accepted, because we have many international students. People are also quite fluent in English so don't worry about that.
About the girls... They are pretty but also quite distant, so making close friends might be difficult. Estonian girls also DO NOT like cheesy pick up lines, better just start with friendly small talk.

I can't tell much about Tartu since i live in Tallinn, but i've been there once during my class trip. Is there anything specific you'd like to know?
