No, I get what you're saying. I was just pointing out that since the subject matter was restricted the majority of the comments would be coming from people with some knowledge, however basic it may be.
So, y'know, that might skew your perspective. "Everyone on the site" and "Everyone who could feasibly post about this content" being a "programmer" are a tad different. I mean, we're just cresting 100 comments as I type this, that's... Not a lot of people. Compared to the views (17,862 as of now) and account for some users commenting multiple times, you're looking at less than half a percent.

You're correct, a semicolon is used for attaching two related sentences; it replaces any commas and/or conjunctions.

Any two sentences could make it a run-on.

The way I was taught semicolons was that both clauses must be able to behave as standalone sentences.
