Some, sure. Not all. No reason to use words you know your audience doesn't know when there's something else that works just as well.
Point being, he's probably used to calling it 'filipino' when he's talking to English-speakers because most people don't know what 'tagalog' is.

Essentially, both are interchangeable. Calling it "Tagalog" may be more accurate, but it is by no means more correct than referring to the language as Filipino.
Although Filipino differs from classical Tagalog, as Filipino borrows many words from English and Spanish, due the fact the Spanish and Americans ruled over the Philippines for a number of years.
My point was, votta is forming an opinion on something he clearly does not know that much about. Considering both can be used here, and he ought to realize a Filipino dialect of Tagalog does exist - which this dialect happens to be the official language of the Philippines along with English.
