the way I see it.
You got the right to refuse to vote
But the moment you don't vote, you don't have the right to complain about who gets into the government and how it is run.

You do know turnout for the election was 61% in the uk overall.
#60 - hillbillypowpow (05/13/2015) [-]
This kinda reminds me of how everyone in Georgia lost the 2012 presidential election.
The way it works, for anyone who doesn't know, is that the majority vote in GA gets all the electoral college votes, and in the last election the state voted majority for the Republican candidate, and the Democratic candidate won. So, if you voted for the Democrat then you lost in the state and your vote didn't actually contribute to the election, and if you voted Republican then you lost the overall election.

The only thing I'm happy with in this election is that being scottish we finally did vote for something different.

Being tiny though it makes no actual difference. Hooray tiny countries.

To be fair, if less than half the country actually votes, how can you consider the government legitimate in any form?

I agree, you can't complain if you don't vote, but the system is shit either way.

#27 - vorigan (05/12/2015) [-]
You can't at all, but it's all completely legal. So unless they take the 'Straya route and make it law that you have to vote, this sort of thing won't stop.

I heard about the recent elections in the U.K but being American I dont know much about it could you elaborate to me why is it bad/good that David Cameron's party won?
User avatar
#21 - lennybrown (05/12/2015) [-]
The conservative party sadly and basically there policies are in favor of the wealthy in the UK. however the voting system is so bad in the UK they won when though 66% of people who voted did not want the conservatives to win. here is some stats:
63,489,234 people in the UK. (Not all of them can vote, I know)
46,425,386 people can vote.
15,900,000 people did not turn up to vote at all. (No official count)
11,334,920 people voted for the Conservative Party.
30,698,210 people did not vote for the Conservative Party
User avatar
#32 - lennybrown (05/12/2015) [-]
pretty much ya
other party wanted Labour party to win if theirs did not (which they got 31% of the votes) to win as labor contain some policy from other party plus there policy where to caterer to the working class of the UK. however places that used to vote labor voted UKip (uneducated people fault) and SNP (scotland), labor lost because of this so we can really blame Scotland and stupid people and to think labour was going to give Scotland more power as promised the cons wont.

sorry of my opinion based on facts.
and come on everyone knows people who voted UKip are idiots
#24 - ruderoody (05/12/2015) [-]
So they got a majority of the votes and won more of the seats in parliament?
User avatar
#39 - felicidefangfan (05/12/2015) [-]
Yes

I agree our system should have a bit of an overhall as first past the post has problems, however people complaining that most people didn't vote for them forget they still won a majority vote so MORE people wanted them than didn't

I don't follow much politics, but after the results were in, a shit-ton of new announcements have been made about new laws and abandoning old ones.

One of them mainly being that they want to abolish the Human Rights Act - the thing that lets us be a civilised first-world country.
They've just placed someone who has in the past restrict homosexual marriage into the equality minister role.
Their expenses have been a national scandal but one minister (MP - elected person of state) has surpassed the total of the two biggest parties and is still in power.

Scotland largely voted SNP since the majority want to be independent from the rest of the UK and now won't get a second chance knowing shit's about to hit the fan.

I know this isn't a very comprehensive way of explaining things but tl;dr the majority of votes put a party into power who in no way hold the country's population in interest.
User avatar
#40 - felicidefangfan (05/12/2015) [-]
What you all forget is we want to replace the European human rights act with a UK one, it's not getting rid of human rights, its adjusting them to allowing more freedom over things like deporting criminals

Based on my little to no knowledge of American politics and a quick Wikipedia search, I think so?
Just unbelievably annoying posh prats who want to run things into the ground as much as possible.
#103 - xxmemosxx (05/13/2015) [-]
As opposed to the stupid prats who wanted to hand out free money and massively increase public sector budgets without being able to show where any of this money was going to come from (i.e. increasing debt... again or increasing taxes and we all know Labour would never do that).

Labour voters had their heads in the clouds or were just that intent on stopping "the posh prats"
User avatar
#106 - lennybrown (05/13/2015) [-]
This is why I don't vote all the party are daft the conservative party are getting us out of the EU (bad idea might be a short term solution but long term it will be a disadvantage and Scraping the Human Rights Act) and the labor like you said where is the money going to come from? but I suppose if anyone was going to win it would be the cons some of there polices are good. also my comment on 32 I explained it wrong I was trying to explain why the others lost not like any of them are good.

Do you think any of the stuff they'll do will stick or will people protest on the streets enough to change it?
User avatar
#25 - vorigan (05/12/2015) [-]
It's hard to tell - of there's enough noise made about it then maybe there will be protests/riots, or their propositions will be stopped before they leave parliament.

Unfortunately this is just a constant cycle between two parties that don't seem to do much and although I hate to use the "all politicians are liars and thieves" speech, this pretty much sums up are government in one fell swoop.
#28 - ruderoody (05/12/2015) [-]
It's a problem we're facing in the U.S right now so I can sympathize the problem is that no other parties can get voted in due to the prevailing thought that the ones in power now are the only ones that have a shot of getting elected if you can change that then the government might change to reflect that

but that's the thing it is realistic, just because you haven't personally heard of it or been effected by it or can't fathom it doesn't mean it hasn't happen before or will not occur. That's like saying children aren't capable of murder or physical assault . Children are able to learn things at a very young age and also have desires just like the rest of us, and just like the rest of us and yea it does have a lot to do with there surroundings and bringing up and what they see, but just like the rest of us its possible for them to be able to blackmail someone or threaten them into doing things for them whether its sexual acts(and use that as further fuel) or simple material objects to money, or other things. its a German game(damn good one at that), and that's the point its an exaggeration on pedophilia and German politics/views on it. the point of the children being the ones behind it is just to further the exaggeration and to make you think a bit how sometimes shit is not what it seems and maybe things can happen that just doesn't seem likely because we have this false ass view that children are this innocent harmless thing that should be protected, when there really not and can be manipulative little shits that can get what they want because adults are so blinded by that fact and will believe anything they usually say :pic related:
#75 - vorigan (04/22/2015) [-]
I dunno, it still sounds fucked up to me. Children only tend to be little shits when they're brought up by terrible people.
Yeah, I think some children will lie or twist facts just to be dicks, but actually force people to have sex with them? That's just not even remotely realistic or believable.

i enjoy nice special effects, until they get corny and stupid
i like partially cloudy days, because i like the heat of the sun, and the gentle cool breeze
i havent seen anchorman one or two. not that interested. i dont really like will ferrels acting
nirvana had a few songs that i liked, not a huge fan.

He IS right about Macs.

He said "Macs are miles better than any computer bought by regular people "

Notice the "regular people".
That means some shitty office prebuilt PC.

Not one with i5/i7, SSD and other expensive shit that beats the shit out of a Mac even in price.
User avatar
#43 - capslockrage (04/17/2015) [-]
That's not an opinion, Macs are just garbage, it's a fact.

There is absolutely nothing better about them unless you have NO idea about computers.

They are twice the price for half the speed, are limited on what games they play, offer a shitty looking operating system, and give nothing useful.
