Now for the fun part; finding the IP's and URL's that ads are coming from, so you can redirect them.
There are a ton of lists online, and a little research can remove a lot of ads, as well as blocking malicious sites.

I open the command prompt and type "netstat -b"
This will show any connections and the programs making them.
I locate any unusual/unwanted connections made by Skype.exe and block them in the hosts file.

It's a pretty rag-tag way of doing it, but it works for me.
Run Notepad.exe as an administrator. You have to run it as an administrator or it won't be able to edit your hosts file.
Your hosts file is in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
It isn't a text file, but just a plain file.
Open this up. You can do a little reading.
Basically, you give it an IP followed by either another IP or URL.
You can type * as a wildcard.
For example, the line;
127.0.0.1 www.funnyjunk.com/*
should block all access to the main of funnyjunk by redirecting any connections to it to your localhost, instead.
You can also use this for redirecting sites to other sites, not just your localhost.
Just make sure you have Notepad (or whatever plaintext editor) running as administrator and make sure you save the file as "All Files" and not a txt.

Admin ends it, saying "Sorry, but I just don't think you would be a good staff member."
Dude plainly says "Okay, thanks for your time." and leaves.
