Not liking clannad's art style is understandable, I never had any problems with it but I can see why other would.

Regardless SAO's lack of content is not so easily fixed, having to come up with extra content that also fits within the boundaries of the source material is quite time and money consuming. Especially if you need to fit it in 24 episodes. Maybe they'll remake the anime too at some point kind of like they're doing right now with Psycho-pass right now.
I agree with you on the romance part though I definitely enjoyed it too though Kokoro Connect, Spice and Wolf, Nagi no Asukara and Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta are probably my favorites in that respect.

The time skips are in there because that's how they are in the novels. The author is working on a redo of the sao arc that is much larger then the original though.
The romance was also just better to understand in the novels. In the series they get together seemingly quickly after what happened with Kuradeel but in the novels I feel it seemed more obvious just because you better understand what Kirito is thinking during his time with Asuna.
I hate Sinon's story though so I didn't really like GGO.

Don't get me wrong, I love SAO. It's one of my favs, but just because the skips was in the novels too doesn't really justify it. It still left out some things that could have been cool if included. And the romance between Kirito and Asuna is the best I've seen in anime. No I haven't seen Clannad because the art style scares me..

Well, no matter how effective it was, the episode where the girl he met was up and killed with the rest of her Guild was forced as hell I'm sorry to say.
And the characters drive, It's those episodes in the forest near the lake when they effectively were giving up for a time were just a big question mark. And his relationship with her wasn't forced, but it did feel rather rushed. You just have to remember the story was written by a 16 Y/o though.
Any way I still loved it and hope that the second season doesn't turn into a big mess.

Easy. It has a story with unnecessary jumps in time. The amount of Deus ex is rather extreme. The drive behind the characters is rather lacking at times. There are just so many negatives that most people just hates everything about it.
Personally I like the characters, and the story holds enough for me, especially in the second half where the characters have a much more defined drive and the story is strictly linear.
If you ask me the story became overhyped and then because of that everyone goes in with high expecations and then it lets them down.
#986320 - virtigo (07/10/2014) [-]
I agree with the jumps. Especially the out-of-nowhere 2 year one, but I think the drive behind the characters is good enough.
Personally what I like is the consept, the main characters and the romance. Some people call the romance forced, but I don't see that.
And yeah, the overhyped theory I agree with.

The biggest problems I had with the forest season was that Asuna was nothing but a damsel in distress, and they took away the whole danger of dying. It was fine otherwise.

The romance is shit, it would've been much better if it was approached from a different angle. You have to admit that it's pretty retarded that the two best players decide to have some R&R and play house with an AI child when they could be in the front lines preventing the thousands of players below their league from dying unreasonably. By poorly written I mean being the incarnation of fanfic/RP forum cliches. You name it, he's got it. Angsty hero in black? Check. Developing a loner complex due to self blame? Check. Being the only person to have a misconceivably "awesome" weapon/style? Check. Instant chick magnet? Check + turning the female lead into an instant damsel in distress by simply walking into the room bonus point. The best player in the entire world? Check (Wow, he was a beater, so you're telling me that all other beta players stopped existing? Can't have anyone better than him that plays fairly, now can we.) Universe, rules, and logic bending to his will? Check. SAO had a superb concept, just a god-awful execution. The only things I ended up actually enjoying about it was the fighting choreography (of the first half, of course,) the OST written by the wonderful Yuki Kajiura, and that little quip about G.I.R.L.s
