Now imagine a country where the ACTUAL quote of "The very presence of arms anywhere and everywhere deters evil intentions" -George Washington
Imagine a country where instead of only people who have a desire to own certain firearms I, and most Americans are guilty of this. Movies, video games, they make us want to own certain firearms. My GF is one of those who just wants a firearm for protection, as long as it is comfortable and can stop a bad guy. Almost or even-because this is a hypothetical- everyone owned a firearm or more because of protection. Imagine criminals knowing, if they cannot stop someone then that person was incredibly likely to stop them(permanently even!)? In one state in the 1990s(if you are interested I will support this with the citations) they offered concealed carry classes to women, majorly publicized it, and the next year rapes had dropped significantly.
Instead of holding everyone who LEGALLY buys firearms back, how about allow them to defend themselves with any arm which can be seen as destructive to the human body? Not many criminals would even think of trying to car jack me if they knew I carry multiple knives on me and my car, and have a CC AR-15 "pistol" with 3 round magazine and keep spares in my glove compartment.
Jacking an old lady's car? Throw her out and break her hip! Unless she has a gun. Then the baddies are fucked.

Then we'll have to ban alcohol and glass bottles when people use firebombs to kill lots of people quickly. Then we'll have to ban Chlorine and Ammonia when people resort to chemical weapons. And then we'll have to ban knives. And anything pointy. Then chain. Then rings. Then hands.

Guns are weapons, drugs are disposable consumer goods. Disposable consumer goods have customer bases that need to be constantly resupplied. If you checked legal statistics, you'd see that alcohol is purchased far more often than guns or ammunition. Illegal weapons dealing would have a fraction of the profit that illegal drug running has if it managed to run a profit at all.

I was making a point, criminals don't give a damn what the laws say. They are breaking them anyway. Gun running is a huge problem, 98% of all gun crime that happens in the US happens with a firearm that was acquired illegally.
Washington DC - strictest gun laws in the country - highest gun crime rate
Vermont - most relaxed gun laws in the country - lowest crime rate
Also fun fact - more murders are committed with hammers and cars than with guns.

Not high powered
Not military (Original designed for Civilian use)
Also, this can vary, but a vanilla AR-15 is not an assault rifle
>Inb4 "AR stands for assault rifle is it one"
AR stands for "ArmaLite"
