| Firstly, Tool would be considered a new band and bonobo is pretty new as well. Also if you think making beats is easy then you are grossly misinformed, and I believe you are probably exaggerating the effort it takes to create music in your band. I understand that it's not easy but generally when the melody of a song is lead by a single guitar the rest comes pretty easily. Furthermore while the bands you mentioned were "good music" it's difficult to see how you can so easily put them on a pedestal above other types of music. While alice in chains produce many emotionally fueled and powerful songs they failed to construct well flowing albums which ended up sounding like a collection of disjointed singles. And aerosmith can't be seen as anything more than a cock-rock band whose success was fueled by their half-assed rock ballads. this debate can really go on forever. i truly believe it's all about the message you send with your music, which is supposed to be a way of expressing art and one's feelings along with it, and i'm sure the bands i mentioned managed to do so quite well. i actually believe every album alice in chains has released with layne staley has a touch of its own, and more importantly, every song individually has that sheer raw power and energy i'm looking for when i listen to rock. fairly enough "facelift" was indeed the first album and didn't really have an identity of its own. "dirt" is just brutal in my opinion, and "tripod" is that dark, grim-themed album which closes the curtain on the band's activity. as for aerosmith, they have a special place in my hearth not because of those crappy new ballads, but because of their first albums which were mainly what rock'n'roll was supposed to be at that time. | ||
