Teasing was horrible for me in primary (I think that's the UK equivalent of elementary? Or is it middle school?) but I learned that the teachers gave 0 fucks about bullying in High school. To explain- Seriously, most A-band high schools here (meaning like 60% get A's in their highers) are nothing but exam factories. No one learns as much, horrific uni drop out rates but because they keep house prices up in the 'catchment areas' the local councils hush everything that goes down in them up. Knives, drugs and especially bullying. Nothing was reported to the council so It didn't get put in official statistics. This though, meant I could get away with slapping people who fucked with me really badly. Shouldn't have been like that, but what the fuck could I do?

It's a real shame at the moment, I used to have a bunch of nice friends. For me It was a mix of sort-of autistic tendency people are just regular but a bit strange. Something that goes along with aspergers/autism (especially for females, under-diagnosis and under-treatment is more prevalent with girls) is depression. Like 50% one time, 70% recurring. I just don't have the energy to anything with this bullshit.

I don't think it's much to do with political correctness, it has been studied to be not so different to autism. The scale makes sense in some ways, but when 'Autistic spectrum' is down on paper, it doesn't specify if you are dealing with someone like me who is just not good with eye contact, or pure 100% chris-chan sonicu crippling autism. That could be a real flaw for careers and shit potentially.

Teachers were the fucking worst for me. I never said or did anything out of line, but people constantly thought I had an 'attitude'. One Irish bitch (who was dubbed 'the leprechaun' from the moment she started being a cunt to everyone) decided I 'just had an attitude' based on no eye contact, short sentences to answer and purple hair (nigga, what?). Leprechaun refused to teach me for half the year before the head of the department caught wind of it. I nearly failed the subject that year because she refused to help me 90% of the time.
User avatar #27 - unusualember (06/28/2014) [-]
I have to agree, putting "high-functioning autistic" on paper instead of just "on the spectrum" would be much more helpful.

And yeah, teachers are shit one time they accused me of stealing a book when the teacher to whom it belonged had clearly stated I could borrow it , but my real problem was with other kids. 90% of the time they would just ignore me, but there was this one chick in elementary with a stubby pig-trotter looking vestigial arm who decided to steal my shoes it being the trend of the time to kick them off on the swing and watch them fly and fill them with mud. She got off scot-free for said action, whilst all the authority figures seemed to think it was somehow my fault.

Luckily, nowadays I tend to hang out with other high-functioning autistics, but my social awkwardness does make it somewhat difficult to get a job. Oh well, c'est la vie.

Well It's not terrible, but I definitely think life would be easier without it. Especially when I was younger it led to loads of misunderstandings that sometimes got me in serious trouble. Teachers and adults thinking I was being rude just because a was a bit blunt, being accused of lying all the time because I didn't look people in the eyes, all that stuff that comes with being slightly on the autistic spectrum.

I think parents worry that autism will affect them/their children, misunderstand what it is to some extent and most importantly when all this was going around lots of the media presented 'stories' of parents with severely disabled/autistic children, not someone 'nearly normal' like we are. I might be wrong on this bit, but when it was 'big news' weren't autism, aspergers and high functioning technically placed as a different diagnosis at the time? I know we just essentially have an 'autistic spectrum' now, but I think it may have been different at the time.
User avatar #15 - unusualember (06/28/2014) [-]
You were right, Asperger's used to be a thing, but now it's not called that anymore because of attempts at political correctness.

And you did remind me of a lot of the shit I'd forgotten about. Before I was officially diagnosed, my mom and teachers would get mad at me because they thought I was being a smartass when I wasn't. Mind, I'm still perfectly capable of being a smartass, but a lot of the time I just didn't realize the implications of my words or actions. And the not-making-eye-contact thing weirds a lot of people out. Still, aside from some minor problems, I can still be a perfectly functional member of society, so I don't see why people get so upset at my being weird. Maybe it's just the natural human tendency to hate on things that don't fit into their comfort zone of normality.

BTW are there seriously people who think autism is contagious? 'Cause if so, that's just beyond stupid.

No, they're always performing in Oz or some **** , never even vaguely near me. Doesn't help that my town is less than well known. Still, I dream of perfecting my demon costume, putting it on, and going to a Lordi concert with my boyfriend (he's the one who turned me on to them.)

I saw them a few years ago. They're definitely worth seeing. I got to go backstage and meet them too. They're some of the nicest people I've ever met. If you EVER get the chance to see them, take it.
User avatar #34 to #33 - unusualember (10/29/2013) [-]
Oh **** yes I'd meet them if I got the chance. I've seen interviews, and they really do seem like nice people. Completely against the stereotype of "all metal is Satanic and Evil."

Also love how Mr. Lordi's speaking voice is nothing like his singing one.
User avatar #35 to #34 - guitarmanforever (10/29/2013) [-]
I like how they're more influenced by Kiss and Alice Cooper, and not like Gwar and Slipknot and stuff like that. I met them back when Kita was with them.
